Joanro:  thanks again for sharing that info;  I am thinking now what to do and also agree very large beef knuckle bones with some meat is probably the best bet and have to be watched until you can get them picked up and trashed.  Don't need any wrecks here.  Am going with the preground stuff on the puppy for now with some kibble in PM feeding (only kibble);  meat in AM feeding that is ground and he is a very good eater as far as gulping;  he does chew first where my Sammies swallow whole.  Really hate that.  Freaks me out and really don't want to have to stick my hand down the throat the have to pull out a stuck bone of some sort.  Nope.  Not me, not brave at all.

So yeah Paul, let me know what you decide to do as far as grinding and what works for you.  Thanks  Nan

Nans I have been looking for quite some time with no real end in sight. If all you needed was meat that would be easy but bone is important for good growth and health. I would really like to cut the dog food out all together, because they kill a lot of dogs each year and do not offer any kind of natural food. I still feed a lot of beef.

I am thinking Blitzen might be right, the organic bone meal might be the way to go.  Super concentrated though so you would only have to feed a very small amount maybe even do a mixture of bone meal and eggshell; buy both and add both to ground mixture.  Whether it be beef/chicken/turkey/goat/Ostrich/ or all of the above, grind what bone you can in the grinder and add bone meal and egg shell.  I also want to get away from any dog kibble made;  hate the stuff, but for a little extra for a puppy I think it might be okay to feed a very small amount.  Supposedly most dogs should only need maybe 10% bone??  Give or take.  The ones you feel need more you could add separately also to ground mixture;  depending on age, growth stages, etc.  Supposedly is not the way I like to feed my dogs BUT with the information we now have on raw feeding vs kibble I still feel it a better choice to bring in healthier dogs for the long term.  Maybe someday in the near future the dog world will wakeup and we will have better diet choices.  I am still searching...  Nan
