4pack, If it is a hot spot, we have great luck with Betadine. keeps it bacteria free and helps dry the gook out so it can granulate and heal.

That's another good suggestion for a hot spot. I forgot about Betadine. We used that as a pre-surgical scrub.

Ok, I used to have it around when I had horses. Will have to go find some again. Thanks guys and I will reply here after the vet tomorrow.

My vet seems to think it was a flea allergie issue from one bite. I had them do a scrape and check for mites. Nothing there. The shaved the spot, cleaned it up, put him in a E collar for 2 days and prescribed Cephalexin and Temaril P. We put him on Frontline Plus and Interceptor. Hopefully the antibiotic will take care of the infection and the Frontline will keep the fleas off. All of my other dogs are on Frontline but I don't havethe right dose for a pup his size. Didn't think much of it being winter and all. Next month we have to go back in to weigh in and get another dose.
