Yes, it takes longer, yellow rose, but it is oh so much easier on our eyes LOL.

Allot of people don't lie sables. I know I don't prefer them.

Thanks to everyone who has given me advice on the situation. I've gotten lots of great leads; leads I wouldn't have gotten otherwise. I've been reading several posts and it's amazing that there is so little agreement on kennels. Some will love them and others hate them. It truly makes your head start to spin! :) I certainly plan on getting involved in the SchH world (right now I've always worked in obedience only). I hope to find some mentors in the field and to soak up all the information I can.

I live in IA so kennels that are in the general vicinity of the Midwest would be best. I've seen some kennels in CA that look nice, but I'd like to have the opportunity to visit the kennels, see the parents, etc. I'm looking for black and tans and black and reds for coloring. I actually posted a separate thread regarding the issue of showlines vs. working lines. I would just be starting out in the SchH world, so I wouldn't want a high drive working dog like others mentioned. Am looking for intelligent, workable pups, but not ones that are going to be dominant or alpha. I had a male in the past that was dominant and while he was a good dog, he was a challenge as you had to stay on top of things or he would try to assert himself. Don't want to go through that again! As far as lines, Mark vom Haus Beck, Fedor von Armnius, Uran vom Wildstegier Land come in my current GSD. I was also interested in lines such as Eiko vom Kirschental, Frei vom Hirschel, and Irk von Arminius. Hope this helps. If you need more information let me know :)

The lines from Mark in general have produced good all around dogs as have those from Frei. In researching breeders check out their females. When you find a female that meets your criteria in genotype and phenotype ask the breeder what their breeding plans are for her. If they name a specific stud or studs you can go to town on researching him or them to see how it all comes together for you. Look for strong outgoing temperaments, low ZW scores (below 85) and consistency of type. Avoid excessive sharpness and TSB failings which can be a result of training problems, but are frequently linked to some sort of temperament or working ability problem. Also avoid glaring physical faults such as excessive angulation, weak heads, weak backs, cow hocks, etc..Best Wishes, Jonah

Mine. www.frauengarten.net I have 2 litters of dogs, one a repeat breeding of a litter in Germany. Breeding produces dogs easy to title, even for novices (4 of last litter already SchH titled at age 2), good enough (drives, hardness) for top competition, while still kind and resilient enough for first time handlers... AND they're beuatiful! AND... I am NOT asking an arm and a leg for them, so "normal" people can have a chance to own, train, title a really good dog without taking out a second mortgage on their house! :))) Shelley
