DR.B. I have a male that has 2 dime sized black marks on his tongue, he has a black face with brown markings. Bob O, same dog as above is a blanket pattern, but his Black has a Red tint to it. My three females no spots on the tongue, 1 bi-color and 2 blanket patterns. None have the red tinting on the black and none are lacking in the mask.

blueskyekennels, I really like your puppy.. I think the parents are just gorgeous... I love dark sables :) Good luck in the future of your bitch. I have 1 question... why did you bring her home at 6 weeks old? You're suppose to bring a puppy home at 8 weeks.

WiscTiger and Dr. Eduardo Bautista, thank you for your comments concerning the relationship of the beauty marks to true pigment quality. As I said, I do not think that it is a 100% accurate indication of pigment strength for a particular dog. The puppies that I cite were ones that I produced. Oh, and the comment about the Chow possibly being present in the breed line-I have heard that one as well during a potential buyer's critique of one (1) of my puppies. He did not like my answer and did not purchase the puppy and this was probably for the puppy's best interest. Wow, if there is any Chow present in the GSD it must be a randy one that Marco Polo brought back to Europe several hundred years ago! Bob-O

The two people i had the dealings with said they read on an akc site that the only dogs legitimately to have a black mark on the tongue or mouth is the Chow and another DOg which I was not familiar with. That statement ignited the vet and a bunch of non german sh people. I never did find the site where it says that but both persons swore they read it and never gave me the proof. ?????

Brittany, The breeder trusted me, simply because I am a breeder of 6 years, I was an exception, he usually lets them go at 8 weeks...He knew that I knew what I was doing, and I did, she's great now, just turned 8 weeks Saturday. Thank you, she is a lovely little demon... (grins as she thinks of her poor toes being bitten terribly) Krista
