Oh and both lines do get  V SCH /IPO KKL in the pedigree , so you cant go by that if looking at pedigree. i would get  fimilar with Kennels , then you will know  which kennels are WL and which are SL. VA are  usually the SL though.

BTW   Dogs that have a Herding qualification - at least in Germany - get to
put  "HGH" after their names ...

I took four different stacks and made them silhouettes (please excuse the feet, most of them were in grass).  Guess the lines.

Yes, to find herding dogs look for HGH, also look at results for the Bundesleistungshüten. For American herding titles....there are a few different organizations involved so there's a variety of acronyms to look for. In AKC, there are three courses (a, b, c) and a dog can get a Started, Intermediate, or Advanced title. The title acronyms can look like this: HSA (herding started A), HIB (herding intermediate B), HXC (herding advanced C). Some people will put an HIC as a title and really mean a herding instinct certificate, and not herding intermediate C. I don't know the AHBA title acronyms off the top of my head.

Here's a dog with a variety of herding titles:

Here's a list of BLH 2011 and 2012 results (I think these are up to date):
BLH 2011
BLH 2012

A lot of the dogs competing at the BLH seem to be work/show, DDR/WGWL, or DDR/show crosses.

Ibrahim, what told you that choice for each picture?

Here is what I think and why:

1.  SL - Thicker neck and chest and overall body
2. WL - Thinner neck, more definition between where chest ends and waist starts.  Young dog though.
3.  SL - I am not sure, could be the way the dog is standing to give the appearance of a thicker body.
4.  WL - Same as #2, but an older dogs.

It looks like even the titles can be deceiving on which line.  Back to, I need to see the dog in action, ask the owner, look at the pedigree, and ask around regarding the reputation of the breeder and "are they telling me the truth" or "what I want to hear."

It's just a guess, but bottom line is VKGSDs is correct and and what he says is logical and based on true experience, my total guesses might be wrong

My picture helps illustrate my point.  The silhouettes are all the same dog, "pure" WGSL, different stacks age 2-4 years.  My quick "erase the background" job may not have been perfect and I flipped them all the same direction but you get the point.  But to concede the earlier point, the color would have been a dead give away, no? ;)  (PS I am a "she" that is me at the bottom)
