Most breeders don't bother x-raying either for HD and elbow problems
----------
I completely disagree with statement. Once again I have to ask you to prove it.
But lets assume it is true for a moment. If the Malinois breeders dont x-ray and the Malinois has a MUCH lower rate of HD than the GSD (according to OFA), then maybe the GSD breeders should stop x-raying and their rate of HD will diminish. LOL
This isn't a pissing match, get over yourself already. You don't have to like my post or even agree with it. It is strictly my opinion and its about Malinois, not even GSD's on the GSD database, so who cares?!
Obviously you care because you posted on this thread. But your opinion was stated as if it were fact. Statements like yours tend to take on a life of their own and become fact unless rebutted.
As far as this being a GSD board is concerned, this is a perfect place to discuss all working breeds. Especially the GSDs closest cousin the Malinois. If we want to breed and train the best we need to stay open minded.
Chris
Let me set you straight. I have been working with Mals for almost 15 years now. In this amount of time I can promise you my remarks concerning them having problems with shyness and nerves is 100% correct. I have not seen a reduction in this trait but seems to have gotton worse. You can have huge differences between pups in the same litter.
The reason of my orginal post was stated. I had seen several people mention Mals on other posts and seemed some people might think they don't have and issues as a breed.
We like to use this board to state our opinions and don't have to prove or back up anything to you so lighten up.
"Most breeders don't bother x-raying either for HD and elbow problems"
And in another 5-10 years I wonder how bad hips will start being in the mals because many breeders automatically think their dogs are healthy and won't OFA or PennHip. Skip generations of health testing and then try to backtrack to figure out where the hip and elbow problems, thyroid abnormalities, and the epilepsy is coming from. Groen and Terv people seem to be much much more of sticklers for health (generally speaking) than many mal breeders.
Sorry - preaching to the choir again, haha.
I'd be really interested in hearing opinions on the top 5 working (or Sport??) malinois breeders.
What breeders are you talking about? Can you point me to some examples? I dont know any serious breeders that assume their dogs dont have health problems. In fact most that I know are pretty up front about their dogs problems. I dont know what things will be like in ten or fifteen years, but it seems that many GSD folks think that their breed is going downhill (I disagree) and they have been doing health checks for thirty years. The Malinois has not had mandatory health checks by any breed club other than the DMC (German Malinois Club), yet the Malinois is a healthier breed for the most part. So are health checks actually making dogs sicker? Some people believe so, due to health checks taking too many good dogs out of the gene pool. Personally Im still on the fence.
I think the top five kennels are different for each person. It depends on what you like. Also most kennels here in the US are pretty small and breed pretty infrequently. I think an easier question to answer would be, what are the top bloodlines for a particular sport?
I think Chris has made it very clear he does not know alot. Notice everyone is ignoring your demands? lol
Chris
Read this from another post from a top working line breeder. Not sure where you have been getting your info from?
I am happy to do this publicly. I have attended two USA Seiger Shows, and watched every working male in the protection "test" as well as in the ring. I saw quite a few beautiful males who really caught my eye, with apparently good temperament (not working) walking around - social and confident (or appeared to be) - I circled them in my catalog to watch in the work. My catalogs are full of huge X's crossing out almost every male in both shows. THE WORKING DRIVES AND TEMPERAMENT OF 99% OF THESE DOGS ARE ABSOLUTELY PITIFUL!!!! It actually made me feel physically ill, to see dog after dog run away from the helper, flinch from the threat, avoid or even let go at stick "hits" (and the hits were not hard) - run around the helper on the courage test and then pop the grip from behind, guard from 10' away, or if they did grip, they did it with one canine "stuck" in the sleeve with help from the helper to keep it stuck there. PITIFUL.
DR Chris always has to start crap whenever he posts. He likes to go tit for tat. Just ignore him and maybe, just maybe, he will crawl back to his other working dog forums and be gone.
thanks 4pack...will do....
