I, too, have a long coat sable, but she's extremely dark sable. I think your girl is beautiful.

No "big discussion"...Why?
You are living in your world, I´m living in mine.

Mutts - this means breeding dogs without pedigrees ( VDH and/or FCI recognized).
You told us you neither like SV ( but you are SV member looking for all the advantages of SV ) nor DASV ( how many members do they have - more or less than hundred ? ) or HSV.
There are not too many choices any more...

Only for the report: Is this your first German Shepherd and the first time you are involved in any working clubs?

I clearly understand owners who think their dog is the best of the world, but this doesn´t mean said dog is breedworthy in the eyes of the breed standard.

Have fun with your dog! You seem to love her.

Maybe I didn't get the right words. I don't hate the SV. I just think there are too many people who work and breed dogs only for the money and because they want to have some famous dogs. And if you are a little breeder you have to get one of these "famous" dogs, so people buy your puppies. I don't think everthing the SV does is wrong, but he should change his way of thinking and working the dogs. You can work a dog without prong or e-collar. It's not necessary.

I don't exactly know how many members the DASV has, but I think it's about hundred.
Well, there are many other clubs (ADRV, FCG, LSVD (who wants to be in the VDH), ASVD, UCI-IHU....)

Yes she is my first German Shepherd, but my grandfather bred Rottweiler for fifty years.

I'm also against owners who wants to breed their dogs, because they think, they are good and beautiful and the best dogs in the world. But not everything the VDH/FCI/SV does is wonderful and the best thing to do and not everything the other clubs do is bad and wrong. She works as good as the SV dogs, she doesn't even look different. But her pedigree...is wrong???
Forget that she is not from the SV for a minute, look at her again and then tell me....is she breedworthy? Because I think it's absolutely nonsense, if you have a good dog, that is as good as the other dogs (she has a better movement, structure, character than the other longhaired in our SV group). Even our trainer said that it's not good from the SV that they don't allow longhaired Sheps from other clubs to breed or to go to higher rated shows.
And that's my opinion. Why do they this? Because these bad dogs could ruin their wonderful pedigrees? That can't be right!
In what points is she different from the breed standard? Right in none. Just her parents and grandparents are not from the SV. But they are not different from the standard too. So tell me what I have here? A German Shepherd? Or a Mix?

When she is HD/ED free, has her title (BH/VPG I) and is with a wonderful, friendly character, but still sportive....tell me why not? Than she has the type of a shepherd the SV wants...and just her parents are not good enough? Who says that?

But you're right...I really love her ;))))

Breed standard SV:

AD
BH
IPO/VPG 1 or more
show result ( seize, teeth, standard...)
breed survey
HD/ED
DNA

out of ancestors that are proven, too.

" Forget that she is not from the SV for a minute, look at her again and then tell me....is she breedworthy? "

You really don´t want me to take a look at some pictures to decide about breedworthyness or not, do you ???

Go for HD/ED, go for Schutzhund titles, and than rethink.

It simply is not possible to tell if a dog is breedworthy from photographs -
why would you think it is ??  Susie is right, breedworthy ness  comes out
of having good health test results, and preferably some sort of working
certification, even only Good Citizen or BH or AD or something equally
basic, [depending on where you live and what clubs / facilities ARE
available to you], AND good construction AND good temperament.  Breed
worthy is not just a pretty coat.  Sound like your girl has SOME of this going
for her,  BUT ...

You say " If you are a little breeder, you have to  get one of the "famous"
dogs, so people buy your puppies".
NO NO NO
A) nothing stopping you IF YOU HAVE A HEALTHY & SURVEYED bitch,
using a "famous" dog at stud - if you really want to AND feel thats the
best match for your bitch.  You don't have to BUY a "famous" dog;  or
bitch for that matter.  You can save up for a stud fee (if you can afford
to rear a litter properly);

B) re selling the pups - you don't HAVE to breed, at all !  No one is
compelling you to;

C) hundreds of puppies are sold on the pet market ALL the time
who have parents no one has ever heard of ... even in Germany...
(how do you think those selling whites get on,  and longcoats before
the rules were relaxed and classes started ?) - and which get under
the SV's radar, untested, unsurveyed, untitled.  Worse if you go to
the UK or the States.  Who produced yours ??

D) lots of 'little' hobby breeders manage fine to sell puppies out of
non-"famous" dogs and bitches;  but that is because they are
plugging away to get good results, they do the health testing and they
have a good go at the training, even if their dogs never win high enough
grades to become "famous";  and they don't overproduce puppies,
they wait until they know people want to buy them.

Good grief.!!!

PS personaly I agree with you about prong collars, and electric ones -
but that is a separate issue; and as far as I am aware there is no compulsion
about using those if you don't want to, either.  Shutzhund Rules don't make
them obligatory.

by Gustav on 05 November 2012 - 12:11

It's not that some people don't have class....it's just that it is low!

by Gustav on 05 November 2012 - 12:11

It's not that some people don't have class....it's just that it is low!......OP enjoy your dog and do as much as you can with her!

Gustav I do hope your reference to 'low class' people is not to me n Susie
but about those club members the OP complained are 'hateful' to her
longcoat ?
OP - change the ethos of your local club (harsh collars and all) from within;
and get a thicker skin or earplugs for these rude people.  BoL.
