Trainer nearly Killed my dog - Page 3

Why do people seem to think that putting a sch title on a dog is as hard as walking on water? I have seen total idiots train their faithful mut to get a beer out of a refrigerator for them. Is schutzhund really that hard? I know it is challenging, but with a little effort and a little help it can be done. Is this why the sport is "dying"? I think it is part of the reason good clubs are not very easy to find. Everyone who is interested in the sport gets turned off by veterans that spend more time talking about what they can do than actually doing it. Ever notice the scores of these "its so hard people" are usually 250's. Schutzhund is going to be dead completely if we dont get more young people involved and constantly saying it's so hard will not bring them to the sport. Heck, thats why I train with a executive protection dog guy. I just tell him what to do and he does it, and is good at troubleshooting too. Again, maybe it is hard with low drive show dogs, but any working dog worth his salt can be titled. Sorry, I got on my soapbox again..... Nothing wrong with paying for the titles, but I still think you miss out on the best bonding with your dog you will ever do. Something about training long and hard, makes your dog closer to you than you could ever dream.

Black Sable, A GOOD breeder do train their own dogs.. and I seriously suggest that people who want GOOD puppies and GOOD dogs should go to them first before doing business with those who ships their dogs off to Germany to get trained. GOOD Breeders who train know their dogs weakness and strong.. Those who ship their dogs off to get trained have no idea what their dog is like other than to trust their trainers advice. DesertRangers, I absolutely agree with you... people do have the right to hire people to train their dogs... but they deserve no bragging rights because it will only disrespect those who drip sweat and blood by taking an untitled dog and titling it to a certain level. I only show empathy for the elderly and disabled people who have an untitled dog and want the dog to get titled up.

ceddy sending good dog to good trainer will help the dog,but the dog going back to the owner still will be the same dog

Black Sable, I agree with your last comment. Have you ever seen a person try to handle a newly titled sch dog? It is sad because the dog is like "we dont do it this way" or "what the heck are you doing human? the blind is over there". If you do it yourself you can work the kinks out during training.

How can someone who do not have any experience in training can judge the videos that they received to determine if their dogs are receiving the proper training? ANYBODY could proclaim that their "MASTER trainer" or "Professional trainer".

flipfinish agree 100%....by training with you dog,you learn about your self and your dog,by sending the dog for few months for SchH training you get the same dog,use those months to bond with your dog

SchH is all about hendling,if you dont know how to handle a dog you may have Eros vd Mohnwiese,and dont know what to do

That is crazy.. the point wasnt him handling the dog. he sent it out for SCh titles and with a top trainer he would have gotten that.He wasn't didnt state any interest in competing with the dog in the messages I read. Flipfinish titling your dog and understanding your dog is a art. The problem with most new comers is just that they want a pet not a titled dog. Everyone wants to train there dog at first but when the learn how much dedication it takes and how time consuming it can be the leave. SCh training isn't rocket science but it is something that most people really don't have time for. Also we are making a big deal about something they already decided to send the dog out. im just suggesting that they send it to the right people.Nothing is more rewarding than training your own dog but quite frankly it isn't for everyone. Never said it was for everyone. We can start this discussion in another post another time. Bottom line is that I hope the dog recovers and the owner gets what he paid for. Thats all I will say here.
