I agree with jdh. Why shoot people down because they can't do the training themselves for certain reasons, like not being able to have the amount of time it takes to train them, or they don't have a respectable trainer or club by them. I really hope your dog recovers from this DtownDually!!

DtownDually, please provide an email on this board where we can reach you. I would like more information on the details of this incident. I would not want to judge this trainer if in fact you were just an anonymous person cowardly attacking a legitimate person who may be a more competent trainer than you. Thanks, Don

I agree with Don, DtownDually needs to come out of hiding. This does not sound like something Jerry would do!

I agree with mfm.... and no I'm not agreeing with him because of DtownDually getting screwed... I'm agreeing with the principal. If people cannot take the time and effort into training their dogs... then they should NOT have one to the begain with. and with all due respect to everybody who uses "professional" trainers... At lease be nice enough to give CREDIT to the trainer on your breeding site! At least show the world that you don't train your dogs and hire people to do the dirty work. DtownDually can you also send me some information? you do not have an email listed up????

I think every good breeder should train his own dogs(it is with help or under professional trainer if he is not one)I understand some old and experience breeder,or people with show lines witch dont care about SchH,but need to do that to show the dog,but there is a lot of people to send the dog to put the title just to have it,why? SchH title will not help you with your dog,you still will have problems

IMO people have the right to use professional trainers but should keep a good watch on their dogs. You might be old and not able to get around but love GSd's and have to hire someone to train the dog. I do agree it's best to train your own.

I am certainly sympathetic to anyone who has a situation like this (assuming it is true). I personally think you should title your own dog, but do understand not everyone has the time or access to a good club. Besides the people who use outside trainers pay for it, and I mean literally. Seems to be more popular in the "show" world, no offense but most show line people I know spend a ton of money to buy a certain bloodline, then send it off for titles, then go to the show ring, then breed the heck of it and try to make lots of $$$. I realize not everyone is like this so don't attack me for saying it. Working dog people tend to enjoy the time spent with the dog and thus do their own training (mostly). I sympathize though and wish your dog a speedy recovery.

The original poster makes some serious allegations. I suggest that IF it is true, he/she get a letter from the veterinarian and all other pertinent records, and the contract he/she hopefully signed with the trainer and take this to the AKC or the United Schutzhund Clubs of American or the WDA, depending on which, if any of these organizations count the trainer as a member. Clearly, IF any of these allegations are true, this person should be sanctioned. I can not say what did or did not happen. Neither are we on the board privy to any contract that was in effect. However, there is always also the legal avenue to pursue IF the situation is as you say in the original post. If what you said is NOT true, you have slandered this individual and they can sue you in a court of law. There are many people who choose to have someone else title their dog for them. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, but anyone involved in considering a training scenario should be sure to do their homework to make sure that their dog will receive the training and will be well cared for. There are people here in the U.S. who do this, and there are some good trainers in Europe too. It depends on what you are looking for. Training a dog for SchH from scratch, especially if you have no experience, is a daunting task and presumes one has the time, energy and ability. It also assumes a good club that is a good match and a competent helper is available. Often none of this is true and people elect to use someone else to train a dog for them. There is nothing wrong with that. But there is something wrong if a dog is not cared for.

Using a top trainer for your dog is a good idea. Sometimes the dog is much better than the owner. Sometimes the dog need a better handler or stronger person for them. Who knows. Either way the fact that someone will send there dog for training is a good plus. I personally have met the trainer in question and won't say anything about him other than he is guy who really loves the dogs and does try to do his best with each dog he trains.People do more homework before you start sending your animals anywhere. Also the cheapest isn't always the best. Having trained dog for people as well. I know there is always 2 sides to a story so lets not judge people just yet. MFm and Brittany i want to add this for you.. There as so many people who should never attempt to train there own dog and send it to a professional. They do so much damage to the dog before they seek professional help that its pathetic. Nothing is worse than seeing a top dog look like crap because of piss poor training. Training a dog is like owning a car sure i can change the oil and rotate the tires but why not take it to professional that will save me time and maybe some major damage to my vehicle. Just a thought.. Please keep us informed about the progress of your dog and its recovery. I hope that you will infact send it for training again in the future. ceddy
