Need to heal the callus first if it's open, putting ointments on it if it's open sore will likely not heal it, However Betadine might get it healed then you could continue with ointments. might give it a try.

You can put the medication on before covering the elbow.

Trailrider-- Sounds like this will be an ongoing problem. Heal it (easier said than done, I know). Then check out these websites: velcro ace bandage--you can make as tight as needed www.spenco.com/prod_sportsmed_fiberflex.html (FiberFlex Wraps) The bandage can be purchased at: www.shoefootandbody.com/body/sports_medicine.htm ............. Also check this out---Spenco 2nd Skin Dressing 3" circles. They might come in handy. www.123footstore.com/index.php/action/item/id/102/Prevaction/category/previd/1/prevstart/0/ ............. Hope this helps, or gives you some ideas.

Thanks to all for the advice. Blitzen I was thinking about trying some moleskin again and putting on vet wrap over it. I think Yette would take a sock or shirt sleeve off if not watched every second. But she might not be able to reach the vet wrap easily if I keep it short. I could change it frequently. LMH I think she could get those dressings off to easy, the ace type bandages might work though.. Thanks again.

Trailrider--- The 2nd skin goes under the ace wrap--Good luck.

I don't usually use elastic bandages since it's too easy to wrap them too tightly. However, if you're really careful and just lay them on the dog and not stretch them much, they are more durable than Vet Wrap. If you use Vet Wrap, don't put too much tenison on it when you're wrapping the leg and wrap the entire leg from above the elbow all the way down to below the pastern. You should do that with any type of bandage so it doesn't restrict the blood flow. That's why you seldom see a vet wrap only a portion of the leg, they will do the whole thing and might even go aroudn the foot using a stirup to hold it all in place. Of course the path of least resistance would be just the gauze, the med, the mole skin and something to hold it all in place at the sore area assuming she'll let it alone. Check the feet frequently for swelling and loss of heat. If they get cold or swell up, remove the bandage immediately. Odds are nothing like that will happen, but it's always wise to error on the side of caution. My GSD's have always liked to wear long sleeve t-shirts, never tried to remove them and they looked especially good in black. Before you start to wonder about me, I did that when they had sore elbows, not just for the hell of it LOLOL.

Blitzen Funny!! Maybe I should try it, just knowing Yette I figured she would want it off, but it wouldn't hurt to try. At least she won't be licking it for awhile. She does this when she is lying down. I assume because the rug is irritating it. I should add it is just a pink color and not festering or anything but it has got to be sore on the rug. I am going to try padding up her crate today too.
