The judges comment on this issue, was... That it shows the bond, and the control. If your dog is looking at you the whole time, He's likely not looking at the birds or smelling other dogs pee spots.
Mostly though he put emphasis on Bond.

Yes exactly what Echo says...
These days, among other things, the judge is looking for a nice overall picture, paying close attn to the dogs attitude and bond with his handler. A dog with downtrodden, ears back, "I'm doing it because I must" attitude will not leave a good impression on the judge. A dog working with ears up, tail wagging and glaring up at his handlers face with happienss and vigor paints a great overall picture and leaves a wonderful impression on the judge.
