That is true, Ryken. But I can assure you that these dogs are sold for a reason. If Pakros was indeed sold, it is because Vegas is ready to take over. The same for Marco: Tor is waiting in his foot steps. My guess is also that Marco was not shown this year, to promote Tor. Good luck to the Chinese breeding program and looking forward to finally seeing some great dogs from the "Reich der Mitte". Regards, Chris

Karat's Yoker got T3 in the bitework. That explains everything to me. There may as well have bben an invisible sign around his neck on the way back to the car that read: 4 SALE. Next stop: China! From what I have heard from friends who have visited kennels in Japan and China, the dogs are treated very well there... possibly better than anywhere else my friends had ever been. The facilities were fabulous: immaculate, spacious, climate controled, and each dog had a "staff" assigned to do everything from clean its kennel, grooming, food prep AND socializing (playing, excercise, affection, etc.) A buyer who spends the kind of money they have to spend for a V-A dog is extremely proud of their purchase. Labor is cheap in China. It only makes sense that the new owner would take very good care of their investment. Few people I know would sell the dog they put so much time and love into to a place where it wasn't going to be happy/well cared for. Sure, it does happen, but more in the US than in the Orient, I suspect. What do they DO with those dogs? Who knows? Its not like there's a big market for expensive puppies in the industrialized Orient... and I kinda doubt anyone ships their females to China for breeding (ahem!). Most likely it is exactly what it appears to be: a pride thing. Shelley

Just to put another fly in the ointment. The Chinese are renowned for their "discipline." Many amazing disciplines that the rest of the world admires and has yet to master originated in China. As for breeding dogs, they have a least a thousand years of experience. There are Chinese breeds that have been exclusively bred generation after generation by both royalty and the very elite for specific characteristics and temperament. Some of these dogs were not even allowed to be sold or taken out of China until relatively recently. Such as the past 125 years? Pekingese, Shih Tzu, Shar-Pei, Chinese Foo Dog, Chinese Crested. Who dares to point the finger? Only a moron would assume they eat their dogs of "prestige."

Thanks Redcap, couldn't have said it better. Koreans eat dog, not the Chinese, and not even the Koreans are going to clobber their best dogs for lunch. Amazing the crap that gets said on here.

My issue would not be with Chinese people, but after thier goverment just slaughterd countless pets.....the LAST place my dog would go would be to China! ....and NO, there is NOT enough money in the world to BUY my dog!

Talia The Chinese government that you referred to is not the China central government, but the local municipal government, ordered to kill of dogs within its municipality to stop the spread of rabies. It is admittedly the failure of the local municipal government to arrest the rabies problem at its onset, and we can blamed it on their inefficiency. But they figured that human life is more important than dogs' life, and they may have overdone it, but they could not risk the lost of more human lives... The practice of the Chinese local municipal government is not unique, it is similarly practice in the western countries when they faced with the mad cow disease. The population of the cattles within a certain area were all eliminated, regardless the cattles are infected or otherwise.

Don't know how this rumor started about Pakros being sold to China, but that is all it is a rumor. Talked to the Von Batu Kennels this morning, trying to coordinate a Vegas breeding, through them(Pakros was the initial 1st choice) and was advise that the owner of Pakros(and Vegas)they both live at the same kennel outside Nuremberg) said Pakros is still there in Nuremberg with him and there was NEVER, A-N-Y discussion to sell Pakros to China. Again,Pakros STILL in Germany, living right outside Nuremberg.

Pakros is living with Nathalie Prachensky since he was a puppy, and they live in Reichertshofen, about 60 kms north of Munchen (Munich). The TEAM with Pakros, Xara, Xaro, Vegas and many many more, are so wonderful and professional. To visit their training club is a fantastic experience. I have been so lucky to have visited them many times, and I am going again next week. To see so many OUTSTANDING dogs, trained to perfection, with a TEAM that is so dedicated, is the best experience I have enjoyed in over 30 years involvment in our wonderful breed. My greeting to the TEAM - Winfried Benitz, Daniele Francioni, Klaus Sievers, Nathalie Prachensky and Max Wittmann.

I must support Videxes comments about Nathalie, Winfried and Daniele! Now to the other subject appearing in this thread! 4Pack, I hate to say this, but you are putting in some crap yourself! I am of course refering to your would-be-expert phrase: "Koreans eat dog, not the Chinese, and not even the Koreans are going to clobber their best dogs for lunch. Amazing the crap that gets said on here." What YOU say is crap! So, better hold your horses! Chinese DO eat dogs. Only yesterday, proof was given on German TV (ARD). Please do visit for more info: http://www.daserste.de/weltspiegel/beitrag.asp?uid=1h9xo42rm820enur and come back if you are in need of translation. I have seen the footage together with my daughter, who had to leave the room. I will put in (only) a fragment and even translate it for your convenience: Hund gilt in China als Delikatesse, viel teurer als Schwein oder Rind. „Das Geschäft läuft gut, die Nachfrage steigt sogar. Deshalb will ich jetzt eine grössere moderne Fabrik bauen. Anders als früher wird Hund heute auch auf großen Banketten serviert, weil das Fleisch als besonders lecker gilt: Mager, zart und herzhaft im Geschmack. Und gesund ist es, besonders für die Nieren, sagt die chinesische Medizin. Dog is considered in China as a delicacy, much more expensive as pork or beef. "Business is great, the demand increases. That is why I want to build a bigger modern factory now. Unlike before, nowadays dog is being served at banquets, because the meat is considered to be especially tasty: lean, tender and hearty in taste. And its beneficial, especially for the kidneys, says chinese medicine." Just a little note at the side: I was watching very closely at the dogs running around during the footage, and I was stunned!! Some super goodlooking GSDs were caught in the images, when dogcatchers were collecting other dogs that were to be taken to be slaughtered!
