Hi:

I would recommend that you find out if either or both parents have produced pups with retained testicles.  It could be a genetic factor.

If not genetics, then it has been my experience in another breed, that male pups testicles can go up/down for the first 4 mons.  After that the ring closes and what is is.

I understand wanting to have the option to breed the pup in the future.  However, unless you have the ability to campaign this dog across the country, visibility as an available stud dog would be limited.  I would think of it as a fun outlet to spend quality time with your dog and anything additional would be blessing.  If the testicle descends, then there's the issue of hips, elbows, eyes, DM, etc. etc.   My past experience campaigning top show Australian Shepherds taught me that these dogs need to go every weekend and all over the country.  It becomes  a career for the dog.  I would imagine this would be true for top competition dogs in any of the canine disciplines.

Have you gone to a quality vet?  If so what was their advice?

"stewed German celery for one week."
Hehehehehehee.

I would just wait and see, if anything allow plenty of exercise for the pup.
If this is such a concern for you then rehome the pup now, I think it would be better for the pup after reading this.

"stewed German celery for one week."

And Moons responded,

Hehehehehehee.

Sssssshhhhh! The source of that advice hasn't been active around here in ages...best not to tempt him to return, methinks.

I've seen quite a few pups get testicles 3mos plus, I would wait for the testicle to drop....I have had them drop as late as 4mos on some of my male puppies and had a breeder friend of mine sell a STUNNING, STUNNING puppy at around 14wks or so due to one undecended testicle...told her not to, told her to wait, so the puppy turned out to be drop dead beautiful with great bitework and....2 testicles.

The inquinal ring does not close for 3-6 months, and I have seen testicles descend at up to 8 mos. in GSD's. 7 weeks is way too early to worry.

Yeah well no love lost here either hexe,
And I still believe for this pups well being it would be better for this person to find it a better home now, not later.
I don't like this ones priorities.

A good friend of mine bought a $8,000 hunting pup out of five generations of champs. one testicle was missing. He was miserable. He told me that his wife was very understanding and did anything to remedy the situation. He said she even went as far as massaging the area daily. I asked if it worked. He replied, "It worked wonders. I'm as happy as I've ever been. Now if she could only do something for the dog......"
