Debby, the ER clinics tend to get the young vets who haven't established themselves very well, and are willing to work nights and weekends to get some much-needed money and experience.

Some ER clinics have the local vets do a rotation (those that are willing to give their time). I'd trust those before I'd trust the clinics that have their own vets right out of college, unless the vet had special training in emergency medicine. And that darn well SHOULD include how to deal with bloat, and do a stomach tack!

In Story's case, the local ER clinic was telling Sarah to come in and have them assess the dog. Sarah kept asking: Do you have progesterone on hand, because that's what we need to stop her from aborting the puppies?

They gave her a big song and dance, but finally gave her an answer: No, we don't have any.

Sarah had to drive Story to Guelph, leaving around midnight, for a 2 hour drive.

All the MORE reason to find an experienced vet who is willing to work with you if an emergency pops up! Getting harder to find, but they're out there! LAST resort to me is an emergency clinic. Vets just out of school rarely open their own practice unless they are independently wealthy. They are usually pared with an experienced vet or 2.

Thank you everyone fro answering my questions. Everyone here played a large part in saving my Torquie-Girls life. The vet said that really we should have lost her, but she obviously has a very strong will to survive.
I may not know any of you, but you all mean the world to us, for the part that you played in helping us through this.
On the lighter side, How do I put up pictures.É I have some before and after pics of Torque I want to put up. And also some very cute puppy pics. I tried to put a pic on the left right side where it says you can insert one, but nothing happened.

Thank you all once  again, I can never say enough thank yous to you all.

Lorraine,
We are all so happy for you too and would love to see pictures!
When you go to post a message, look at all of the options and controls above the message body field. On the second row, the last group, the very first icon, square one next to the round red one...
Click on that.
When the box comes up, click on "upload" on the top menu.
Then click on brouse button in the new window that pops up, and select the photo from your pc.
Once your photo's url is loaded in the brouse box... click on send it to server.
Once you see the photo come up in the middle box.... click OK and it should load up into your message body. Once it's there you can size it to fit the page.
If you have any additional questions just ask!
:)

Torque is doing great, she had the stitiches taken out on the September 27th. When I got to the vets office she didn't want to go in, the her doctor walked around the corner and she practically ran into his arms. I almost cried. There was no swelling or any redness around the stitches. Torque jumped right up on the table, and the vet couldn't believe it. They took all the stitiches out, and she just stood there and let them do what it was that they needed to do. The vet said that she is very puppy-like, in regards to her energy level, and that was before she had even fully recooperated. I didn't realize how much energy she had actually lost, until a few days agoi. She is back to her old playfull self. The only thing is that I can't help but wonder how long she was actually sick for. I feel horrible everytime I think about the fact that she may have been suffering for a while, and I didnt even know. Just the thought of her being in pain, and not being able to tell us, just about rips me up inside. BUT she is healthy now and doing amazing.

I still can't thank you all enough for the great advice. I was going to wait for 2 days to see if she got better. I f I would have done that, we would have lost her.

THANK YOU EVERYONE SO SO MUCH I WOULDN'T HAVE MY TORQUIE-GIRL IF IT WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN FOR EVERYONE THAT REPLIED TO MY POST. YOU WILL NEVER KNOW HOW THANKFUL WE TRULY ARE.

I managed to get some pics up of her.

Hope to hear from you soon!

yes, you will need to make the pictures very small. I usually go by the dementions of 4 inches by 6 inches and 72 - 120 in ppi.
I think that your photo program should be able to do that.

Omg my girl, Chamois, started having this discharge and I can't believe I found this story tonight!! I'm getting her into her vet without any delay tomorrow morning and wait for them to arrive. I will keep u posted. Thank you for this forum!

Lpstevens2003, sending good thoughts Chamois' way...so glad you checked in on this site and found this thread just when you needed it.  Catching this condition early is ideal, and if a dog has to experience a pyometra, it's always much better if it's the 'open' type where there IS a discharge, as is the case with your Chamois, as opposed to the 'closed' version in which the cervix is closed and all of that purulent fluid stays trapped in the uterus.  I'm sure tonight is going to seem unbelievably long for you, and morning can't come too soon so you can get her into the vet.

Lorraine, your girl Torque is beautiful, and it's such great news that she's recovered uneventfully and is back to her normal, busy self!  Please don't feel badly that you didn't know Torque was ill sooner...she's clearly a pretty stoic, tough girl, and there's no way you could know about the infection until she started showing some kind of sign that she was sick.  I know people who are equally as stoic when they're sick, and they won't say or do anything about it until they nearly need life support--so having the ability to tell someone else doesn't matter if the patient is determined to go about their normal business and refuses to let their illness affect their activities.  You should be proud that you're an observant owner who sought out advice as soon as you noticed something wasn't right with Torque, and a dog couldn't ask for more than that--*your* observations likely *did* save her life.
