What a horrible and sad thing.   I  would be so upset and angry, but I would like to think that as hurt as I would be, I might still be able to ultimately pin the blame squarely where it belongs - on the head of the mo fo asshole "bad guy" who ran into my yard in the first place.

Don't forget guys, this was a suspect in a "home invasion", which if I understand correctly, is a particularly violent type of crime, perpetrated by a very dangerous kind of a person.  We aren't talking about a guy who had a couple of traffic tickets here.

Thank you for the nice comments

Sue,
Thanks for the common sense post.

Well, if this was an awesome GSD, I'm sure it would have apprehended the subject before the cop got there, and he would have received a medal. Because we all know every GSD is unlike the Dobe. None of them are pet quality.

I haven't read through all the comments, so my apologies, if I'm saying anything that someone else has already mentioned. My first reaction to this story is, not all cops are dog handlers OR even have the capability of dealing with dogs. Some are just down right afraid. I believe (as an outsider reading this story), this officer simply thought he was being targeted by the dog, and pumped it with lead. Truly sad. I'd absolutely go off on someone doing that to my dog. Let's face it....dog's have a protective nature about them... *REGARDLESS* of breed.

If I were the owner of this dog, I'd be pushing for an investigation. I feel for this owner.

Its overkill,so to speak.  To shoot the dog in his own backyard thats fenced.

<head shaking sigh>

I may be partial towards the dog though.  They were not the ones whom violated my rights when I broke no laws.

Protect some serve some, violate others.

Whow is me , there is no justice

Now, that explains it.  Let me guess they weren't your pants, right?

I really do appreciate your honesty and letting me know where your coming from.

Maybe if you started shooting fleeing suspects, there'd be fewer suspects attempting to flee, and getting totally away with it.  If you feel you must play "chase", then save the tazer or pepperspray or nonlethal measures for the dogs that get in your way.
