I am guessing he paid for a registered dog not a rescue with an ILP. But if you never get the papers an ILP would allow you to compete in AKC performance events. There are also other venues that accept unregistered dogs or mixed breeds in performance events. NADAC (huge in Agility) and UKC come to mind. This is a shame you paid for a registered dog you are training to compete and if you don't get the papers you are considered a rescue dog or unknow origin. This breeder needs to wake up and smell the coffee not only is it beneficial to them to have you competing imagine how many dogs they aren't going to sell when you tell all the performance handlers how you ended up with an expensive rescue.

Not only the fact that I paid for a registered dog bothers me but without proof of her lineage in the way of registration, I have no idea as to possible genetic issues with health or temperament, only the breeder's word which at this point is does not hold a whole lot of credibility for me. Don't get me wrong, I realise that lineage guarantees nothing, but it is a very important tool when trying to predict how a given dog will turn out.
