blair built gsd

Who said it had to be a showline dog?  I missed that part of the question.  My west german american line dog is as good of a real life ppd as the last rotti i had.  She may not have the power or even the meanness but she does have a real attitude.  To the guy with the 1000.00 to loose ppd dont do there work on a schz feild they do it in there homes or at the end of their owners lead.  If you care to test my girl you are welcome to come over in a hoody act the fool and grab a hold of my lady or i and see what happens.  I have seen her at work and i promise you you will be on a fast ride for some stiches.  Ppds dont work in the world of sport they work in the real world were things happen that you cant train for.

Then clarification must be made.

The phrase "American GSD" can have several meanings. It can mean the AKC show type, an indescriminately bred pet line dog (BYB type), and to some it even refers to any American born dog, even one of German lines.

It appears to me the original question was leaning toward AKC show type dogs.

This is a very novice question and would be only asked by a very novice person. As a breed, then, no, the Am. line of A.S.S. is not suitable for any service to man. They have not been bred so for many generations.

Are some individual dogs from this line suitable. Of course. I posted in another thread about Clayfield Kid Rock. A dog from many generations of A.S.S. breeding who was tested and accepted by a LE agency in my area. This is a very solid dog in character. But he is an exception to the rule and not indicative in any way of the A.S.S. in the U.S.

If you wish to promote the idea that the A.S.S is correct, then I can only say "load up on them". present your dog for the world to see. What I see is a dog that often cannot be held in position for a judges evaluation. And is often drugged.

But, then, what do I know. I am sure that all of you who say good things about the A.S.S have much more experience than me and can present your dogs.

oh yes they can,i currently am working an am.showline champion male that i bred, towards his bh,he has very high ball&bite drive, tracking is ok.,not all am.bred dogs are over angulated frogs who cannot walk,or gait,or work!give me a break,a good gsd is a good gsd,oh,and i also breed  working line dogs, and have to my credit placed dogs on k-9 units, and have a cerf.narcotics dog,sch1 titled bitch from my breeding,so i do seem to know if a dog can work or not,yes i am involved in the show, and working dog world, and love them both!and yes my am.bred boy will bite for real,i work with a small group of working dog people, and we did a simulated home invasion, and he was on it,and took some good bites into the bad guy!i look for the whole pkg.,even on the am. dogs i breed.yes i honestly agree, that you will definitely find a higher ratio of real dogs in the working lines, but to open one's mouth, and say am. bred dogs cannot step up to the plate,at all,is dead wrong!again,it depends on the individual dog!a friend of mine, nancy schneider,of evansville in.,titled four of her am.bred gsd's to sch titles, her e-mail is elvirarom@aol.com,just e-mail her,she has worked am.bred gsd's for yrs.
