Yes, I understand that there is a difference between VA and showing. I was refering to the statement- "If you can prove the tooth was once there the dog will not be disadvantaged because of it." And yes, I also understand a rating includes V, SG, and G. Theresa

And I was referring to regular showing. Not every breed awards a VA title, most FCI shows stop at V and AKC/CKC has neither. The few dogs that may have any hope for a VA are really of little concern to the average person showing, so why put all that focus on such an unusual event, then we would need to pick every if and but apart and that was not really the point of this discussion. :o)

Theresa, USCA has a rule that a dog must have correct dentation to qualify for the VA rating. They also had a Dental Notation program where the missing or broken tooth could be documented and it's conformation rating would not be affected. The problem was the judges were not smart enough to read the purpose of the Dental Notation program and apply it to the ratings they were giving. This was especially true at the sieger show in Bakersfield where dogs with properly documented missing/broken teeth were penalized and their ratings were affected. After USCA botched that event. Enough people got involved and wrote letters showing the organization their screwed up interpretation was in direct opposition to the purpose and intent of their Dental Notation program published on their website. The organization finally understood that it made absolutely no sense to implement a Dental Notation program and charge members for a Dental Notation whose sole purpose was to document broken/missing teeth so a dogs rating would not be affected and then have a documented broken/missing tooth affect the dogs rating. Since then USCA read their own rules and interpreted them as they were written. Dogs with properly documented broken/missing teeth are able to receive a VA rating.

I believe (but could be wrong) that Eros vd Luisenstrasse was placed V1 instead of VA because of a teeth issue... something missing, but noted in the pedigree and then kept him back... anyone have something on that? Its spooking around in the back of my head somehow.

"Für den Siegertitel und die V-Ausleseklasse kommen nur Hunde in Frage, die in Körkl. 1 angekört sind (Hunde aus dem Ausland, wo eine Körung nicht stattfindet, sind hiervon ausgenommen), Hunde mit vollständigem, einwandfreiem Gebiss..." Translation: Considered for Sieger or VA are only dogs that are breed surveyed in KKL1 (except foreign dogs from countries that have no KKL), dogs with complete, perfect dentition... Doesn't say anything if dental notation in pedigree is accepted, says dogs have to have perfect teeth/bite.

Eros had an "honorably" broken tooth (and everyone knew how and why) pror to the days of dental notations. Louise
