For the urinary problem, have his thyroid checked.

by Preston on 13 September 2010 - 05:09

First thing I would check out is the dogs medical condition.  It's possible that the dog has a prostate or bladder infection or even a cystic prostate.  A sonogram of the prostate may be indicated if a urinalysis shows blood in it or excessive white cells.  This problem can also be due to behavioral issues such as frustration over feeeling abandoned or ignored, or even marking isues if any female type hormone emissions are close by.  Also could be subclinical EPI so a TLI blood test may be a good idea.  Less frequent but still possible is a neurological problem in the back due to myopathy or from an injury or spinal stenosis.  You need a very, very good and experienced vet.

NEVER let him watch you clean up his mess!  This will bring more interest to the spot and urge him to explore it even more.  When cleaning up after him, crate him in another room or put him out.
