I'm not sure how we got onto the topic of not feeding your dog... I am a new GSD puppy owner and WANT to find the very best food. My breeder feeds their puppies Fromm dog food and they love it. So, I was wondering if anyone else used this food or knew of a better one. I couldn't care less about showing or anything else. I want a strong, happy, healthy dog.

I thought this was about dog food not too skinny dogs. Most dogs in the US are over weight. Some European dogs are too skinny but most are lean. I would definetly disagree with you on that they are starved. US bred german shepherds are bred without a weight standard unlike the European dogs and many are way too big, 100 lbs + shepherds. I have looked at alot of the ads on this site as I am constantly buying dogs for different purposes and can say I have not seen dogs that I would say are starved. As far as swinging a dog in the air, weight has nothing to do with it. A good full mouth bite and a dog that is in top physical condition is the only way you can get such good bites. A starved dog would not have the stamina to stay on such a bite or to even compete in such a grueling sport. I have handled many dogs and can tell you a lean in shape dog will out last any over weight dog, just like a person who is lean and in shape will out last a over weight one. As far as the original post, sorry but have never heard of Fromm dog food so cannot give you any advice except look at the ingrdients and check out the quality, if they are good then see how your dogs do on it. I currently feed 5 different types and varietiess of foods in my kennels cause some dogs do better on one then another. It is all about how good it is for the particular dog, not if it is considered the best on the market. Mike

I feed my dogs Blackwoods 5000--catfish, duck and potato. Really, each dog is different. It depends on what works well for your dog. I look for coat condition, stool, vitality etc. The main thing I stay away from is wheat. Several of my past GSD's have had big time ear problems with wheat. Heidi
