I would defy anyone on here to even get a comb on Izzy, She hates being brushed or anything else been like it from a Puppy, you need to wear a suit of armour just to get a brush on her, It is really a pain
The little Bitch is no LADY thats for sure

KCzaja.....yes!!! I am glad that someone else mentioned those 'rowdy waves' . Prince has an area I have been wanting to take the clippers to. Also, many of the show horse people I know including myself use a product line called Vetrolin by Farnam Products. It is by far one of the best product  lines available IMO. The shampoo and the conditioner are Awesome..!! They make a shine spray that is great for show and everyday use to repel dirt and condition the coat. Now the BIG QUESTION........Can we use horse products on our GSD's...????? Whatch think????

steve1....hahaha...suite of armor...

I shied away from the furminator for a long time because people said it broke the hair.

Then, I found out my friend, Sarah, who is a professional groomer of many years experience swears by it!

So, I gave it a try.

It got out all  the undercoat that the slicker brush missed. My male, who is a bit sensitive about certain areas being brushed is great with the furminator, and doesn't react to it at all.

As for it damaging undercoat, I just finished doing an hour's grooming on two of my dogs that are at peak shed. I looked carefully at what the furminator took out of the coat. For my shiloh pup, it was almost 100% undercoat with the odd guard hair here and there. The guard hairs looked to be full length, and not broken off.

My male GSD is at the stage where he's shedding both top coat and undercoat, so what came off was a mixture of both. However, if I plucked at the loose hair on his body, both undercoat and top coat came out, so it was NOT the furminator that was causing him to lose the guard hairs.

I really wonder what you people are doing to your dogs to make the furminator do so much damage!    I can see that it might tear clumps of hair out if the hair was matted, but then it is not the right tool for grooming a matted dog.

I love it too, yes the same as a rubber curry comb for horses... I also use a Furminator (I don't show my dogs) , slicker brush,  and a regular metal dog comb and the combination works great.

Just thought I would  share a SUPER beauty tip.... I am really obsessed with primping my lil Prince....I hope that the less vain posters will be understanding.....For those of you that share my obsession I used two products the other day called ...LASER SHEEN ( leave-in condition spray) and Vetrolin ( rinse out conditioner)....I use these on our show horses.......Prince has a beautiful red and black coat, but these made it SUPER SUPER soft and very shiny. Also, it helped with the areas that stick up lay down very smooth and flat.......I used a very cheap shampoo then applied the Vetrolin conditioner (be sure to rinse this one out)......lastly l spayed him with the Laser Sheen while he was still a little damp ...thats it....LOOKS BEAUTIFUL and SMELLS GREAT.........its been almost a week and he still looks PERFECT....

** Also someone suggested brushing Prince while he was wet..this removed tons of hair**...THANKS...
