the price for shipping an adult gsd in a 500 series crate is 600 euros. that includes the crate. i use pet air (www.petair.de) .
in germany prices are based on kennel size, not weight like here in the states. the supplier may be charging you more because of transport from the kennel to the airport which in some cases may be quite a distance and costly.

I just got an adult female in from Hungary for www.TaosSpiritKennels.com and the shipping from Frankfurt to Dallas TX was $700USD.

I paid about 750 euros from Frankfurt to Philadelphia for a puppy in March.(Gradlyn)

We ship from Slovakia to the US and the cost is only 1100 USD for an adult dog (just negotiated new shipping prices).
this is what's included included is
large crate
vet check
dog passport
8 hour van ride
overnight at a kennel in Frankfurt,
paperwork at the airport,
flight direct flight to a MAJOR international airport (Dallas, Denver, Atlanta, Chicago, etc.).
I would guess that 700 USD to 800 USD is a much more appropriate (crate, vet check and flight) for a direct flight from Frankfurt to a manor airport in the US...............if the kennel is located in close proximity to Frankfurt.
If the dog must switch planes, to get it to an airport closer to you, the price goes way up.
from internation to local will include more air fare and a broker to do the customs paperwork inbetween flights.
