I've bought some of the leerburg training dvds but I've never done anything like this before and there is no SchH club anywhere close to me. I don't think I'd be able to do it all by myself. Well thanks everybody for all the help, I appreciate it.

Anyone wanting to consider Timothy Helser should read the thread "I am sorry for my language and behavior" first. Just fyi.

I will train dogs to Sch titles. These are my rates: BH-$2000 Sch I - $6000 Sch II - $8000 Sch III - $10,000 You pay 600 per month for Boarding, and nothing on the training until title is earned. You are welcome to come and visit all training sessions. This is based on testing the dog first to make sure the dog is a good candidate. The training will be geared to get a title as quickly as possible. If you are interested in higher scores, then the rates will increase. I will be as upfront about the sport, scores, time, and cost as possible. If the dog is a good dog, then from zero to Sch I will take about 6 months. This represents taking a good dog to a score in the 240 range. For higher scores with even good dogs will require more time, which means more cost. If I'm doing the math right--assuming a dog stays with you for 6 months, the SchH1 will cost $9600!

by wardawg on 18 June 2006 - 20:06

I like your math, but that is not correct. The total cost is $6000 for the BH and Sch I, boarding included. I ask for the cost of boarding to be paid monthly, and the balance to be paid when the title is awarded.

That's more like it! Do you also charge for entry fees and travel expenses? Hey, I'm sorry to waste your time--just curious--I'm not even shopping--my dogs are fully titled to SchH3 IPO3.

Our rates are - 2000 Euros for the SchH1/KKL package, which also includes BH, AD, one show rating, food and board. - Each additional title is 800 Euros extra, so the SchH3 comes to 3600 Euros. - IPO and FH titles are also possible. - Transport costs are responsiblity of the owner. - Our facility is insured for liability up to 3 Million Euros. - Access to trials is almost weekly, and to breed surveys is monthly during trialing season. - Trainers include recent BSP/WUSV/FCI competitor. We title dogs for top kennels like von Karthago on a regular basis. - Personal pick-up including a training session with your dog is always possible. And yes, visits are also welcome as long as they do not hinder daily operations and visitors are respectful of the trainers time. - Special show handling up to Sieger Show level is available, as well as competitive SchH trialing for dogs talented accordingly. We have more detailed infos available to individual inquiries, which are always welcome. References are available.

That is correct all entry fees and expenses are extra. However, there many trials relatively close in my area so travel expenses are typically minimal, if I have to go to a club other than my own. In the Birmingham - Atlanta area there will be 6 trials a year typically.

Wow, slap a title on and go make puppies! I cannot understand why anybody would not want to at least try to train tracking and obedience. I understand that it is hard to do protection with no support, but to just turn your dog over to somebody that you only know from the internet seems chancey, at best. It also seems that you are not really getting a trained dog, just one that knows the trial routine. So, trained but "not for competition". What's the point? The fun is in the journey. Lorri

by wardawg on 19 June 2006 - 11:06

The point is simple; Schutzhund is a test of the dog's genetics. Some people can not train a dog to a Schutzhund title if the dog has the best genetics in the world. Sit is sit no matter if the owner trains it, or if some one else trains it. Out is out either way also. It is only fun for the owner if the can do it, or if they enjoy doing it. Do you think it is more fun for the dog to be confussed during training. It is easier for the dog with an experienced trainer. The training is Black and White. I do think it is best for the owner to train his/her own dog. "IF" this is something they can and enjoy doing with their dog. But to answer your question; the point is to test the dog's genetics. The genetics are the same if the owner or if a trainer trains the dog. Most people do try all three phases before they seek out help. So don't be so Judgemental, these owners are trying to do the best thing for their dogs even if you don't agree with them.
