They both give you empirical evidence about the condition of the dog's hips. I breed German shepherds, not hips. I need to know the physical structure that OFA, A stamp, or Penhipp can give. (And I have used all three). If you are an owner this knowledge will help you sleep at night. If you are a breeder, this knowledge is vital, but when placed in the context of the other aspects, (ie...hips of other dog, hips of parents of both dogs, hips of the siblings, genetic strength of this line of dogs for hips, and compatibility of the two dogs in a host of other areas besides hips), then for me either scheme can give me the pass/fail knowledge I know to add with all the other info to make a decision. Its not like an OFA excellent guarantees you anything over an A stamp normal....that is the thinking of people who breed hips intead of dogs. Those other variables I mentioned in parenthesis are going to skew the equation anyway, so again I feel both shemes are as good as the other....merely giving you data.

It is another thing to have your dog severely injured.
If you do PennHip, once again, witness the procedure for the sake of your dog.
