Donna, your story doesn't surprise me; I can see it in his face. He looks like a lot of fun.

Indy is like that- my TWH (aka Cat in the Hat). I was trying to sell a horse once and he couldn't handle it that the other horse was getting all the attention. It was like he was highly indignant that the whole crowd wasn't there to see HIM. He kept grabbing people's jackets and trying to  keep them from going over to the other horse, and when that didn't work, he stole the bridle and reins I was about to put on the other horse and ran off with them. Everyone laughed at him of course, which only egged him on, since now he WAS getting all the attention. He's a freak, I tell ya. He'll offer his right hoof and "shake" hands w/a new person (only took him about 3 tries to get that down), he will try to catch his hay in midair if I throw it over the fence, and he is the most jealous horse I have ever met. He will throw a fullblown tantrum if I pet another horse- he'll jump and buck and spin and even squeal like a pig. SO full of himself. Ironically, though, he's one of the kindest animals I have ever met. Gentle w/other animals, regardless of size. He even had a cat friend at the old barn I boarded him at.

 Jenni,

He has a stunning head! What beautiful big, expressive eyes. I like horses with a head that is relatively short from the eye to the nose and more dish faced (as opposed to Roman nose). Someday, I will have a Friesian. I might be in a nursing home looking out the window at it, though! LOL...

I want to say the I love everyone's pictures!! They are all nice looking horses!

Jenni, is that your Friesan colt with all the winter hair? Also, dont you just love how they always lay right smack dab next to the fence line?
It would make me so nervous that they would get their legs caught up in the fence and on occasion we had one that would scrape their legs on the botton rail while getting up. None ever had more than very superficial wounds, thank goodness.

One day when we went to the paddock to get the horses in for the night we discovered that the big metal gate had been knocked off its hindges. Knowing that there was only one way for that to happen, we started checking legs. Sure enough it was Tsachet(in the pics I posted) who had hair scraped off and superficial wounds on all four legs. We were very glad that was all she had since she could have easily broken a leg or two.

More often than not their favorite place to lay was by the fence or gates.

Thanks, Davren. He was very pretty this summer...this winter, however.....ROFL. He looks like this awkward, sad, super fuzzy little dejected creature. He's so laid back that my neighbor thinks he's depressed and needs medication (all her animals are on head drugs...IMO they're still nuts, but that's just me....). He's got that "ugly duckling" charm thing working for him. It's quite hard to picture him ever looking like his father, but occasionally I'll catch him standing a certain way and I see Teade in him....minus the scruffiness. He is so sweet and nosy; I kind of don't want him to grow up, as much as I want him to be gorgeous and mature and rideable.

I LOVE this video. Anyone who likes Friesians will like this. I like this one SOOOO much better than the fancy schmancy ones. So beautiful and powerful. It's cute- in the mornings, Chief runs a similar routine, although he doesn't have quite as much grace as his dad. Yet. ;-)

Yep, Donna. That's him, believe it or not. Pretty pathetic, huh? I just heard that sunbleaching is a copper deficiency- our soil and water and hay are SO high in iron and too low in copper and zinc. I learned this yesterday in my barefoot trim class. Along w/abscesses, it causes bleaching and fading that stops when you supplement zinc and copper. I'll try it this summer and see what happens. His body stayed black but his hair became highlighted. People have actually thought he was some rare breed. ROFL.

They do make me a big nervous w/the fence, but it's hot, so they don't get too too close to it most of the time. It's also bracketed to the posts in such a way that it would most likely break before it would seriously hurt them. My boys are all pretty easy as far as fencing goes. I think Chief jumped it one time, because he was wandering around my back yard, just eating grass, minding his own business, and I could find no other way he could've gotten out. I think the others must've been picking on him and he was kind of forced over it. Otherwise, that would require a lot more effort than he likes to put forth.

WOW!!
Jenni, your boys sire is one awesome guy!! I bet your boy will be quite the head turner once he is fully matured! You may be surprised, too, once you get all that hair off of him this spring. He may look totally different than he did last fall before he got all fuzzy.  Im sure you know this already though.

I love to watch horses running free and just being horses. All the running and bucking, so happy!!
Thanks for sharing the video with us!!

Oh, I know Donna. I hope I didn't sound too down on him; I think he's cute, even now. But he was beautiful before all that hair came in, lol.

I will take Summer pics of him and post back. We'll see how he has matured in a year's time- he will be 2 on June 24.

Jen,
I sent you a pm with a person's name regarding your questions about Friesians. I was not sure if she would appreciate being named here on the open board.

by dcacgsd on 15 March 2010 - 02:03

No, Jenni! I know you adore your boy!!
I was just blabbing :-)

My all time favorite huge horse is an Andalusion, he is 17 hands and is a very sweet stud:  Romerito II. He has such grace, loves attention,a all around gentle giant. It is amazing the power he shows, but would not hurt a fly. My horses are closer to the ground :)
Always,
Cee
