I am envious of all you who got to spend so much time w/horses when you were younger.

Nice Friesian on Dreamhorse.com, Chris. Not a bad price either! I wish they'd posted her ped. 2nd premie isn't bad at all! I kind of wish I'd left Chief there for his Keuring, but oh well. I wanted him home. ;-)

Can you all imagine us galloping into Steph's  town to belly up to the local bar :)))) Hey Steph does the local jail have enough room if we cause too much trouble LOL.
Always,
Cee

$10,000 for a foal, no biggie gals. Just hand me that loan I don't have to pay back and I'll get right on it. Hee hee hee ha ha ha.

Startinng 2 yr olds isn't anything, just take it slow and steady every day, start putting a bridle on with a snaffle, no reins, leave it on for an hour or 2. It's alot of reading body language just like with dogs. See how much they can handle before you push them any farther. When they handle the briddle well, start putting a saddle blanket on their back, when that is old news, the saddle (don't use one that you will cry about when it hits the ground or gets stepped on,) once the saddle is no biggie start sinching it up SLOWLY and not riding tight the first time. Once you have them all tacked up, you can lunge them if they are accustomed to that. Usually I didn't even bother, threw them in a round pen with someone to hold them while I stepped into the stirrup, deppending on the horse, I'd either step back off, try again many times throwing my weight a little farther over or just get on smoothly.  My Jakester (Ima Kandy Kat) was 6yrs old, a stud and never ridden, when I saddled him up and plopped on. Not a buck one in him.

Here is my stud Doc Britches as a 2 yr old, then compare the one of me in the Indian costume...looks like a different horse...I bought him when he was 9. Best darned horse I ever owned...totally trustworthy too...steph

Cee, that sounds like loads of fun...up in Arlee where I used to live, quite a few people road their horses to the bar and tied them outside, one guy even got a drunk driving horse ticket...LOL...

4 pack, that is what I did with my Foxtrotter stud, Tequila, he did have 30 days on him when he was a 2 yr old then just used for breeding, I got him when he was 7, threw a halter and tied a lead rope on him, had someone boost me on his back in the round pen and rode him fine...he is an awesome horse too, he does need some more training to take him out though, and I am not as young and CRAZY as I used to be...lol...any volunteers????

Steph I would be all over the job and excersizing your other horses too, if I wasn't in "Beached Whale" condition. I have only hit the ground twice in my life due to horses, so I'm pretty (stupid) brave. One I was running full out on my appy with no saddle, a pheasant flew up right in front of us and he skid to a stop....well I didn't stop with him. Damn did those dirt clods hurt. The other was a 2yr Arab colt, biggest damn Arab I have ever seen. His owner used to have me start all of his youngens because he was too "big" to start colts. LOL I'd have been OK if I had my other foot in the stirrup. It didn't hurt me, so I got back up and jumped on faster the next try. Then the rodeo was on.

I think I have $10k in my drawer I'll lend you for a good cause. She IS very pretty though. Even if I had that kind of money, I wouldn't buy that for a kid- what does that teach them?

I'll let you know how I do w/my little one, 4pack. If it doesn't go as well as you say, you'll be hearing from my lawyers. ;-)  He's too tiny still- he's a late bloomer, I guess. Or he's destined to be a midget, but I'm told his particular lines take a very long time to mature. Or I got ripped off. LMAO.

Any Friesian experts on here??? My guy is small- he's only about 14hh. He will be 2 in June.

LMAO I wouldn't buy that foal for a kid either. I have had 2 foals and couldn't wait for either of them to mature, both sold before they were old enough to throw a leg over. I want a horse I can ride, not just look at and feed. If I did have $10,000, I can think of a lot better ways to spend it, like all the tack, trailer and a cheaper horse. Man do I miss trail riding on nice days like today. We have such pretty skies today and almost 70 degrees.
