I just stumbled across this thread.  I did study French in high school and took one college class, but I went straight to babel fish to get a quick translation.  I want to say, this website has the most thorough, concise information for the prospective buyer I have ever seen, bar none.

The author of this site knows dogs and knows what kind of temperament a working dog must have.  He warns repeatedly that an aggressive (malicious) dog makes a slave of his owner.  Interesting way of putting it, but I understand his intent.  Like all expert working dog breeder/trainers, he stresses the importance of a dog that is social with people in public.

Here is a babel fish rendition of what the author thinks of selecting breeding stock for color (remember, this is a computer translation):

"But, each owner of German Shepherd does not wish to have a soft dog, without life, timorous, nonsociable, incompetent to keep, also the dogs resulting from lines of work are sourer as for the psychic characteristics. To note, qu' at any moment I n' spoke about color of dog. I am very sad qu' currently a tendency wants that the russet-red dogs are with the mode. Breedings select on this color, puisqu' a request exists, from this fact physical, psychic important qualities pass in the second plan, behind the aforementioned color. To select on the color, c' is to change the destination of the dog, c' is to make it pass d' a statute of dog d' utility where the color is of no importance, with the statute of dog of company. In our breeding, we wish to also never privilege the true values will not select us our German Shepherds on criteria of color."

I don't have to see his dogs to be surprised he's at the top of his game.

Micky
