Its hard to determine the true amount of protein in bagged food because the protein content listed is taken from  the TOTAL protein of all sources. Certain grains are high in protein ie oats for example. If the food is grain free then the total protein is accurate but not when the food contains any grains or veggies.

The one thing to remember is what your dogs will do best on. I feed raw but its not for everyone and most people just dont want to take the time to keep up with it.  I havent had a dog yet that didnt do well on raw but I do have problems with maintaining weight if the dog is working hard. If the dog is too fat, its easy to get them to loose by controlling the fat content. Beef @ 80-20 is good for that or even 85-15. With min exercise the dogs will loose weight. If dogs have been on kibble their entire lives then I add pancreatin to help them assimulate the food better. You will know if they arent by the lovely gas they give back. If anyone has mastiffs on here, they pass the BEST GAS of all.

If  you have two couch potatos that dont work much and dont jog with you then if you pick a grain free food, they wont be eating much. Not good if they are hungry all the time. You can add cooked veggies to bulk up what your feeding. Try different foods and see what works well for you. If  one bagged food was best for all dogs, then we would all be feeding the same one.
