I will work my horses and dogs together. When on horseback I will not have my horses run from dogs but confront them and push them away. The dogs will back off, both my horses and GSD's respect each other. You do not want your GSD chasing you horses or your horses can learn to stomp dogs, which would not be good for the unsuspecting dog that entered your corral. There is too much at stake to allow them to be unmanaged together. Maxislooking

Hello I got my GSD with ten month and she didn't know any horses at all. I took her for walks with my horse and had her arround when I was feeding and bringing water. her first encounter was bad, the horses were so big and she was going for an attack, because that was the best defense she could think of.My horses are used to dogs and strong nerved so that wasn't an issue, I made clear to her that this is a no go. Then she tried to chase the dogs on the pasture, especially one a filly, i told her to stay outside the pastuer to make the fence the border for her, she snuck inside and promtly got a little kick no harm done, but I couldn't protect her all the time, since then no questions asked. I made the fence the border and she is only allowed to come in when asked. And I expect her to behave all the time. I currently have a litter down. My luck is that the pasture reaches arround my backyard so they could see the horses from the day they went outside. since puppys and horses are pretty nosy sonner or later it came to a meeting at the fence. Latly I started taking them with me to feed the horses. It works just fine, my horses know, dogs are off limits and so knows my Kessy, the pupps naturally keep a save distance from the horses, they are more worried to be with me. so they can keep their distance to the horses and the horses can keep their distance. i wouldn't take the pupps just to any horse, you need to know the horses and know how they react, well manered on both sides is very important for me....
