LAVK-9

Wow Keith you REALLY don't like those gentle leaders.lol  I agree about not caring on the PC thing.Especially if it is someone that is bitching about something they know nothing of and they have never trained a dog in their life OR their dogs are acting like crazy out of control dogs but yet they are saying that the prong is wrong but  your dog is behaved.Hmmm!! I just had a friend over the other day and I had a prong on my one dog cause I have been working with him on NOT going though the glass door for the neighbors dog when they walk by.She flipped out on me and said it was too tight and I shouldn't have it on him in the house. I was able to fit my hand in it and if anything it was too loose. She has never trained a dog in her life not to mention her Papillions are out of control every time someone comes to the door.
I wouldn't waist the $$ on something new.Plus it doesn't really look like it does any kind of correcting and then releasing and that buckle part could break. What i have done is get some spray paint that adheres to metal and spray it whatever color you want it to blend in.JMO

Pharaoh

I have two classic style prongs with the buckle.  The buckle is extremely sturdy.  I bought one of them from Witmer Tyson's supplies.  I saw numerous dogs there using them.  It really helped me to control Pharaoh before going on to the training field.  I had one from a different brand with the martingale style attachment.  Two times it sprung loose at a very inoportune time.  Fortunately, I have a good recall on Punky Boy Pharaoh.  There was a notice that the Herm Sprenger martingale attachment had been recalled for doing the same thing.  They are developing a new martingale attachment.

I am just using the collar for doing silly things like taking him into stores like Bed, Bath and Beyond, Home Depot, Orchard Supply Hardware, my bank, and pet supply stores and anywhere else.  I don't have to correct him with it on, so the martingale attachment is not needed.  I am just trying to fly under the radar, camoflage.  I like taking him to all kinds of places and I don't want a bunch of complaints ruining my paradise.

I actually don't care about what people think.  But, around here people are used to Flluffy and Princess.  The are a bit surprised byt the sight of Pharaoh shopping in the aisles.  We have a lot of freedom here and I dont want to mess it up.

He is wearing a collar here so that he looks festive and approachable.  It also hides the collar.  He doesn't mind.  He gets cookies and lots of praise.

When we go jogging, I have him on a Amish rolled leather choker.  I can't take in around with that because he is a seriously dedicted puller.

Yes I understand about Fluffy and Princess which is why Strut vom Eichenluft BH, who is extremely well behaved in pet stores, goes in with a prong that is mild but hidden and that is the original Prong Tech.  Have NEVER needed to give her a correction and she is the favorite dog visitor of Pet Supply Plus here in Warsaw, IN, but I like it on and it looks nice too.  All the staff flock around her when we go in as they love her affectionate nature and I really do not want them to know anything about the bite work she usually just did with Randy and with a strength that I love in a dog let alone a female!  Do not think there is a problem hiding the prongs from the public but if they stop me and want to talk I am honest about what my training is about as by then they have seen an obedient, loving and social dog.  Barb

Barb,

What does the original Prong Tech look like?

Keith Grossman

"Wow Keith you REALLY don't like those gentle leaders.lol"

That would be the understatement of the year.  It is absolute bullshit to suggest that any collar that provides the greatest degree of control does so with the least compulsion.  Wrenching a dog's neck does not equate to no compulsion.

I had to say that cause you mentioned it in another post. No they aren't good at all.Don't know what numnut came up with that.

Michele, go to the site of All K-9 and then prong collar and all the Prong Techs, or Neck Techs I guess as they are actually called, are pictured there.   The quick release was the first one they had available and the one I bought, and it works more like the regular HS prong.  The ones with the set in buckles, which I have in the regular HS prongs also, just do not have the slip of the others and remain more fixed on the neck than regular prongs.  They are, however,  very nice for people with arthritis of the hands or wrists since they just snap closed.

For really beautiful leather collars I love those made by Tibor Hattayer of The Wag Canada.  These are made of the finest bridle leather from England and  I use the ones that are either choke or flat depending on which ring you clip..  I never leave any collar on a dog of course.  Barb

Thanks Barb,

I went to The Wag website and it is fantastic.  I have never seen a slip snap before.  Their thicker rolled leather slip lead is like the Amish one I have.

When we are home he goes naked.

I agree with Steve and Keith. I don't care what the public thinks about me using a prong on my dogs. They are not illegal. And I know how to use it properly. I  work in a place that sells regular prong collars and what bothers me is almost every single person I have ever seen come in the store who has a prong on their dogs have it so loose and low that it doesn't give an effective correction, or could harm the dog.
I suppose though, that they think they are in control. Many times I have tried to show people how and where to correctly put the collars on their dog. I guess they don't believe me or are lazy because I have seen the same people come back with the collar hanging off the dog. Probably because it's easier to slip the collar on and off than do it the right way.

Stacy- I know what you mean about it tooooo loose.I call it the Mr T look. IT is pointless and does nothing.Or the people that slide it over their heads!! I had to correct a lady that is doing some training with this one dog.She said that it isn't responding to the prong!! I asked a few questions only to find out that it hangs down low. This woman SHOULD'T be training if she doesn't even know how to fit a prong.JMO
