I think... if this is your first time feeding the dog in question, I would limit the amount and do a gradual increase. Deer meat is seriously rich and a serious amout of protein and iron. If you give your dog too much, he/she will have liquid stools and serious/painfull bowl movements. I bet a dog fed too much deer all at once that never had it before would tie-up. And if that dog was confined to a crate or kennel while in tie-up .. chances are they would die.
So I wouldn't feed deer to a dog, in quanities, if it never ate it before. And never crate your dog when it get's to his consumption limit on a full meal ... deer meat naturally is the complete opposite of turkey and L-tryptophan.
I use deer as a supplement only to be honest. Soooo, if you don't want a hot-wired dog .. stay away from feeding raw deer meat.

It was inspiration that arose out of an email I received from someone asking about my puppies. I had posted several pics of the litter tearing away at some chicken, and the email ended with something like "BTW, what are those puppies doing to that poor deer?"
