Supplements in my opinion are okay i give Salmon Oil and Vit E daily. But good feeding and husbandry is the key to natural good health, If a Dog is healthy and fed correct then its coat will shine, Feed the blood and it will feed the body

I agree Steve! A great food should be all your dogs need. However, I have used Peak Glow Coat too, nice stuff. I feed Canidae now and one of my females looks great. The other has had terrible coat for weeks. I just had her thyroid tested yesterday, if it comes back normal, I may put her back on that supplement or look for another food. I am a fan of flaxseed oil in the winter when my dogs get a bit dry. Especially this year, it's been so bitter.
cherub- I have paranoia regarding kelp. One of my close friends sent a kelp supplement she was gving her yorkie to a relative that does toxin testing and he found traces of strichnine (sp?) in it! She took him off immediately and won't touch anything with kelp in it. It was enough to spook me, too.
soothersmaylive- Have you any experience with the Peak Grow or Peak Stride? I haven't tried them, but I'm considering the Stride for one of my dogs that has a hip problem.

Agree with the others that a good diet is pretty much all that is required. However we have always given cod liver oil as a daily supplement for its all round abilitiy in having a positive effect on joints, bones, skin, hair etc. It is also very cheap if bought in larger quantities as packaged for horses.
I also think that allowing the coat to be a coat by giving lots of fresh air in all weathers, especially rain, wind & cold, can also have a great effect on the coat. They just ain't built for slobbing around in a centrally heated house!
