Has your quote friend offered any help since she didn't have insurance? Crap I would be getting wood for you, selling my horses or what ever I had to try to help you out. I haven't been in the market for a horse so I don't know where prices are, but a few less horses to feed would give her more money or no horses to feed would be even more.
I know many people want to blame the horse, but some times horses are horses and might have intended to kick another horse and you got in the way. But it could have also been a horse thowing a little fit because Mommy wasn't there to feed them, if they are that spoiled.
