Why can't you read?  And why do you have such an incredibly short fuse?

I meant that everyone talks to his or her friends at lunch, etc.  Academics live in international communities that are far more diverse than the communities outside the academy.  They are naturally more sympathetic to people from around the world, governments and cultures from around the world, etc.  They are exposed to people who are usually more leftist than Americans, and this wears off on them.  Everyone is influenced by their peer group.  Most people are largely exposed to a more local or regional or national (less international) peer group than academics.  Hence, academics tend to be more "liberal" (which really means "global" in this context) than most Americans.

THAT WAS THE POINT.

What's the alternative?  The answer is either nature or nurture.  I offered nurture.

Would you prefer nature?  Ph.D.s are liberal because they have an average IQ of 130?  I would think, if you thought carefully about it that you would prefer an environmental (nurture) argument over a genetic (nature) argument.

Maybe you just like to fight?

MVF very perceptive posts.  Unfortunately on this board, I think you last post sentence sums it all up.

Yes, Maggie, don't waste your breath. I am "clueless" - there - said it for you. You don't need to say it again.

I have already stepped out of my personally imposed "annual limit of one ridiculous political post by people who have extreme right wing views".  For everyone one who does not speak up there are probably scores on the forum who agree with you [MVF] but just actually don't have the time to fight a losing battle with folks whose opinions are cast in concrete .

MVF -  I know what point you were making.....which then "begs the question" of why you would post a Thread in which you made the statement (paraphrased) that Socialism is a "code word" for Black....which then further insinuated that when those who oppose Obama by calling him a Socialist are really opposing him because he is Black.   That is a False assumption on your part and very disrespectful of those who oppose Obama because of his policies.

That is PRECISELY MY POINT -- you should spend more of your time trying to understand the people of your OWN country.
