Sango, did you even read my posts?  Or are you so sure of everything that no research is needed?  I did not decide Sotomayer was good because Obama chose her, I asked all the lawyers I know, conservative and liberal, and read on both sides of the aisle.  She is very good, she will be an excellent jurist.

You should of course vote your choice, this is a great country, we get to vote, most people do not.  I have friends who are Republicans, there is room in this country for many points of view.  But right now some elements in the right wing are using character assassination out of impotent spite.  They lost this time, get over it.

Fact is not character assisnation.  Looks like you have commu-socialist friends too.    Btw that was not on my vote card either.  Last I checked it was Dem or Reb.  NOT what's living in the white house on my dime.

What I was trying to point out is that the negative comments made against her are NOT FACTS, but gross distortions of a correct statement she made that any one who understands law would support.  Some of the people bashing her know they are lying, and they know most of the public does not have the education to know the difference.  Her actual record is pretty balanced, she is not extremely liberal.  I would expect her to support Roe V Wade, but as I said, the dems won, we get to chose the judges.  Why do you think Souter waited until after the election to step down?  We will have a few more in the next four years, from justices who have stayed on to avoid a Republican President.  Your guys do the same thing, so why are you complaining?  Obama was elected based on his policies, by democrates, independents, and some Republicans (including my in-laws).  I know you are disappointed, but that is democracy, somebody wins, somebody loses.

Dear Phoebe,

Shifts in public opinion tend to happen very slowly, over a period of years and even decades. Because of this, when these changes reach a tipping point, they often catch us by surprise. One such surprise has just occurred with the news that More Americans (are) "Pro-Life" Than "Pro-Choice" for First Time.

http://www.gallup.com/poll/118399/More-Americans-Pro-Life-Than-Pro-Choice-First-Time.aspx

It's intriguing, is it not, that so many people have encouraged the GOP to run screaming from the abortion issue in order to appeal to women, a majority of whom now consider themselves to be pro-life.

It's also worth noting how much the views of the American public have shifted over time. In 1995, 56% of Americans referred to themselves as pro-choice and 33% referred to themselves as pro-life. So, in 13 years, the percentage of pro-lifers has gone up 18% and the number of pro-choicers have dropped 14%.

Do you think these kind of shifts can't happen on immigration? Spending? Big Government? Gay marriage? Do you think they can't happen with different demographic and ethnic groups? Do you think they can only go in the favor of the Left, but not back the other way? As these abortion numbers show, it's not true, my friend, not true at all.

 RPK

That was one poll.  Gallup is not god.  There is a very good site, fivethirtyeight.com, that tracks a very large number of polls, conservative .liberal, and supposedly neutral,  on a variety of issues.  The site predicted the last national election results to a T.  In a very recent article, they show that there are many polls about abortion, and taken together, Americans support Roe v. Wade and abortion rights.  Please see the link

Gay marriage is an interesting example, I expect it will well accepted in ten years, but maybe not , certainly not in all states.  Anyway, I have to sign off and go home.  I am actually still at work, and have to be back here in 11 hours.  Talk to you all later.

Polls are the real joke.
Pure propaganda and can reflect any result the pollster should choose.

I feel Sotomayor is too young for the position personally.

And choice?
Can a nation be free and deny people their own personal choice as to family matters?
How about privacy?
States rights versus Federal Jurisdiction?
Antitrust laws?

We have bigger fish to fry.
