LA GLORIA, Mexico – Residents in this community of 3,000 believe their town is ground zero for the swine flu epidemic, even if health officials aren't saying so.

More than 450 residents say they're suffering from respiratory problems from contamination spread by pig waste at nearby breeding farms co-owned by a U.S. company. Officials with the company say they've found no sign of swine flu on its farms, and Mexican authorities haven't determined the outbreak's origin.

..............................................................................................

The swine flu strain is suspected in more than 150 deaths in Mexico and cases have been confirmed in at least four other countries.

As far back as late March, roughly one-sixth of the residents here in the Gulf Coast state of Veracruz began complaining of respiratory infections that they say can be traced to a farm that lies upwind five miles (8.5 kilometers) to the north, in the town of Xaltepec.

You guys crack me up!  I guess I'm a lucky one.  I'm in excellent shape and good looking.  Nothing ever happens to people like me.

That almost sounds boring..

Wow, one of my lost posts showed up.

Phoebe, I used statistics in my job back before I retired so I probably know a bit more than the average person about them. There isn't much to go on so far in this outbreak, at least nothing much that is publicly known yet. Could be that all the hubbub will be a false alarm when people take precautions and don't get sick. Could be nothing worse than the usual yearly flu that makes the rounds and kills about 36,000. It's too early to tell yet.

Good on all of you who are robustly healthy and proud of it. To anyone who has had a relative die of flu complications, you sound cold and callous but you certainly have a right to be that way.

This flu would kill me as fast as any other flu..   Fast.

The only question I wonder about is how far and how fast it will spred, and how long will it live.

No use getting in a panic over it, your right about time, its too soon to tell what its going to do.

But we are at greater risk from a bug than from many other threats.

Well Moons, we all know you are so much more intelligent than Kevin Trudeau.   Please, state your books written, and I'll read them too.  I like to have an open mind and read on all subjects so I can make an educated decision.
