Not looking to doubt the standard but I'd think it'd be physically impossible for the spine/back/body not to be very slightly out of line and for it to still allow the hind feet to track to the side of the front.

If the hips were in exactly the same line the only way this could be done is for the leg(s) to toe in/ toe out and not be totally vertical in their action.

Something has gotta give somewhere...
