Steve, you sure pick them good. Of course, it helps a lot when there is a LOT of quality to choose from right there within an hour or 2 by car to nearly anywhere.

Does Rinus do Volhardt test ont he pups or does he go by some other test or just by a "gut feeling"?

fer sure sucker bets:

1. any $3500 puppy
2. buying working pups from breeders who don't work

Ad,
I do not know, but Rinus is a wizard with dogs to my mind, Yes, i am very lucky as you say two to three hours away from most of it, I do not know about $3,000 or more for a working Pup, over in the USA there is a prospective litter coming from the Two dogs i mentioned and at only $900 a pup, and if young heidi is anything to go by these certainly will wok and show it at a young age She could not do enough in her short life, I wish she was still with me, I would be a very happy man. I can certainly vouch for the parents of the coming Pups that is certain having watched them very near weekly and the daddy only yesterday

Beetree - thanks.  I have good teaching ratings ;-)  Btw, "fennel" was not a typo -- I liked the twist.  I also knew a dog once named Evil Smelling Fennel (the breeding was the "herb" litter and the guy had a quirky sense of humor).

I agree with mirasmom that a CD is a good trade for a BH.  In the CD there is no sit or down in motion and no traffic, but the dogs have to work in close, noisy, crowded quarters and then have to both sit and platz in proximity to other dogs.  So while it is different, it can stress the dog in ways that shows its progeny may be better pets.

As Mirasmom does CD, TT, and CGC, those really show temperament for a family that needs a loving pet or an obedience competitor.

If you are comparing AKC and USA down the competitive road...The CDX is not as physically stressful as SchH OB because the jumps are so much lower and there is no verhaus.  Even the verhaus in the UD is more limited than in OB1, although running 25 feet at a little bit of fencing and 100 dogs and people on the other side can be more distracting for a gsd than a good sprint on a field.  The AKC rings are so small for a good sized dog who wants to move!  All AKC titles are secretly titles for dogs willing to be confined and stay under control and enthusiastic despite the limitations.  This has some value in typical pet homes.
