I don't think the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) recognizes being short, black, fat and female as a disability

Ohmagod! I am laughing my arse off. I watched you for a whole weekend in Ohio at the '99 mud-fest. Looked like you got around just fine to me, everywhere at once. I only saw you sit down once on one of the rare moments the sun came out.
That wasn't your toy aAngel had in her mouth, (stolen from a pocket?) when we exited the building after the stand-for-exam, was it? By the end of the event I had a whole pile of them. No wallets, just dog toys. Never figured out how she did it.

I remember Jack Smith telling me I would never put a title on my first pup. A few month later, working with Dean, he got his SchH1. 252 pts- Pronounced. I distinctly remember having a day dream on my way back to the RV of 100 lbs of me putting that 100 lb. male's scorebook in his mouth and shoving the whole package, dog and all, right up Jack's you-know-what.
Sweet!

I did all the training on the dog and admittedly, he looked GREAT heeling with a 6'+ lean male, as opposed to a 5'3" chubby.  BUT, who'd he listen to (when he did listen at all?)  ME.  Who was the one person in the world that the dog never came up the leash at?  ME!  No, we may not have gone anywhere near the dog's potential, but that German judge is STILL looking for a dog like him, or just one to compete with, period.  Meanwhile, I have a new pup that he'd love to have, too!

Some of us are lucky; some are cursed and deserve to be.

I've never claimed to be handicapped in the least, just a bit physically challenged by training and owning the type of dog I prefer.   I can never heel with a long enough or fast enough stride for my male--maybe when he is 12 or 13 we will look good heeling!   My bitches, thus far, have been more accommodating in the pace they require for heeling well.   And, I admit that I can get a "runner's high" from laying and running Sch 3  and Fh tracks.  All that walking, especially behind a dog, wears me OUT!!   I will never understand how judges like Fields and Wilson, who were NOT young men by any means, walked all those tracks during trials.    Good genetics at work!!

Shelley,  hmmmm, I well remember one male you just mentioned....  He did convince my ex that women could not handle strong dogs.  Didn't matter how many top females were (are!) in the club I still belong to.  And since I got the chance and some time doing so, I am not having any trouble handling the same dogs I was told I couldn't before.    And having a blast!

I too thank all the ladies that helped break the barriers in the sport.

Pat Brown-John Rita Mulcher (STILL training at mid/late 70s!) Both Canadians and prima trail-blazers/role-models. Millie Mueller Betty(?) Fields Tina, Amazing, huh, how long some wipes have gone. That idiot actually approached Les early on and asked him why he didn't get Xhango from me to compete with. Les's [typical]response? "It's HER dog." That is one of the reasons I am so loyal to Les-not a misogynistic bone in his body.

Don't forget Anne Kent and Phyllis who represented the US in Germany (and elseware?) at least once in Schutzhund in the 80s. With American bred dogs bred by Phyllis.

I know I left a few trail blazers out inadvertantly. No slights intended. My top-of-mind awareness ain't what it used to be!
I saw quite a few Krieger progeny in my boot camp days. Didn't like them or Krieger II. Sheri's old female Nixe Windweg produced a super litter of females with Ulk Bungalow. I think the line died out except for through Chica, still searchable since her Nathan Blauen Engel daughter went to Frank Mensing in Canada, (in 90?) was titled herself, and her progeny titled/bred. Lucy ang may still have something from her Nixe x Ulk female line. My Cheetah never produced anything of merit, 3 serious faults in her litter by Renee Lancaster's dog (I forgot her too till just now dammit!) Marko, a Donn Dreiderforeck son. (sp?)

We really didn't have a clue what we were doing in those days. We did get lucky now and then because of the great stud dogs that people like Frank and Egon brought in, but I cringe when I think of all the great dogs people imported in those days that went almost un-used once they hit American soil... Blue Scipio, Boy,,  to name a few. A few of those great dogs WERE used a lot, (Perry Bielstein, Donn, Illja Schwaraen Zwinger, the A-litter Lindenhalle boys.. but produced only a few dogs of merit (or, worse, produced poorly) partly because we bred them to EVERYTHING with no idea we would get some awful results. The Germans were laughing their asses off.

I'll never forget Frank looking at my 5 weeks pregnant Cheetah in the parking lot at the 90 nationals, (after our performance) asking who the sire was, then telling me all the faults I could expect in the litter.
He was right, of course. :-((((
