 Get a Real Dog,

This bill was written only a couple days ago. All the exceptions you are talking about are from the old law, which was pretty much ok depending on which county you were in...In my county, an unneutered fee is $150; they all make up different rules. So everything you were told is about to go by the wayside. Oh...did you notice that police and show dogs are not exempt?

Here's what my bf had to say:

"These people obviously don't have anything more important to do than create more government!  CA is drowning in this kind of crap, you don't need more.  Where in that bill did it address breeding animals and what constitutes a breeding animal and who is going to judge an animal fit for breeding purposes?  And there is not enough money in the state to regulate all this crap.  The people who want to comply will, the rest won't, voluntary compliance!

The bill is poorly written, just a pile of crap.   How are they going to enforce this thing?"

What he means by "voluntary compliance" is that laws they can't possibly enforce just come down to some people obey them and some don't.  It amounts to guidelines that conscientious people think they have to follow and criminals figure out a way around. It means that craigslist.org and the pound will still be full of designer mutts and throwaway purebreds. But people who try to breed police dogs are in trouble...a combination of this stupid law and that thing of imported dogs having to go thru brokers...that will pretty much mean that all police dogs in California will have to be expensive imports (and then have to be neutered when they arrive!). Even the ones born here will have significantly raised prices, IF people can get a permit to raise them. Gee, will there even be Schutzhund in CA if this passes? It'll be seriously restricted when we HAVE to get our dogs neutered; I mean, how many clubs do you know where all the dogs are neutered? Seems really weird! And I don't even know any schutzhund people who are irresponsible owners. I do know OF some, via gossip, but 99% of us in the sport take excellent care of our dogs and rarely let them out to breed with pit bulls or collies. So how does restricting us even pay off????

Is this now LAW? I cannot see a bankrupt state being able to enforce it if it is, but it could sure cause a lot of headaches, depending on what county you live in. Breeding dogs is already illegal in LA County. My old county (Sutter) is an under-funded ag county with only two animal control officers last time I checked. I suspect the license fees will be cheaper there, and enforcent more breeder friendly because of all the hunting dog kennels there. Expect the counties with highly concentrated populations to have stiffer fees and better enforcement.
Sad, but this is the way its going to go from now on. Aren't you glad the liberals are in power in so many places and running the country theses days?

I will post another swell side-effect of Dog Laws here in PA creating hardships in another thread when I get time.

It is a wanna-be law that the writer is campaigning to pass. Hopefully it won't, but boy we have a lot of work to do to defeat it.

I'm pretty liberal myself. I don't see how this shit is liberal at ALL.

It's ALL Liberal in a Democracy of Liberty. Be glad we still have the Republic to even protest this crap.

I for one, will always take my dogs with me every where I go in a vehicle. I think it's cruel not to take them bye-bye's. If this is the stuff we have to deal with, I'll be campaingin' to allow dogs in ALL stores and public places. LMAO

Ya, I'm Liberal too sometimes.

The problem lies in the  groups that push these issues.  The politicians are just the empty headed ones that listen to their plea and act in their behalf.

Most empty headed people will read these bills and say to them selves, "Gee, this sounds soooo good, so humane, so kind and compassionate."  Most do not have the insight to read between the lines, take the time to read them objectively, and look at the potential problems with that will follow.

For example, who makes the decision what is clean, what is safe, what is healthy, what is .....................................................
Keep in mind that the President of the SPCA says that  "any dog that shows ribs is starving".  And that is coming from someone in a position to do lots of harm.

In this life, one has to read everything from warrenty's to rules to proposals for new laws with the utmost scrutiny.  These simply are not times in which we can afford to trust our politicians, animal activist groups, or any other group that has the power to effect our lives.

I am a respecter of laws and rules.  I support and obey, but if these laws start passing, I may become a law breaker, and I hate to say that.

Liberal used to mean that you believed in Liberty.  Now it is becoming indistinguishable from socialism/comunism.

I am liberal in the classical definition as described by Frederic Hayek in "The Road to Serfdom".  It is a very hard book to read but it is the most brilliant book on Economics and post WWII civilization.  He is/was one of the smartest men who has ever lived.

Sadly, his book is coming true at this time as he predicted.

Bump, now is not the time to sit on yor hands.
My dogs will be really ticked if they can not go for car rides, If I do not take all of them and leave one or 2 behind, I have some very loud screaming and I mean scream (they could Do Friday the 13th proud). The Gsd's are high pitched will break your ear drumb, the rottie can make the windows rattle with his howl. Please take pitty on me and sign!!!!
I know workmen who put the dogs in the trucks to protect their tools.

Olskoolgsds, I don't know how to fight them sometimes, but I will anyway. 1doggie2, my dogs will be righteously pissed if they don't get to go in the truck; they'd much rather wait there than at home. I do try to fight these things, but it's hard. If you go to chako.org and email Dawn, she generally has something up her sleeve to fight them, but oh my, it's hard and it's expensive to file lawsuits every time they come up with this stuff (no way can you leave it all up to PetPac, another political entity). Somebody had a thread going  about fundraisers; I am stealing some of those ideas to fund suing the State of California--hope you guys don't mind. Hard freaking work, though. Wish us luck. Donate money.

I live in Florida and when my sister (who lives in LA) called me in october to tell me about the california law I was upset. I understand the reason for controlling the population of animals but making it a law to me is wrong. What happened to all of our freedoms and rights.
