Joe please come back to this thread that you started.

I am so sorry that you set yourself up for all of the bad remarks but that was your own fault, first you need to have some halfway descent photos and yours were bad.

I believe that you have a very nice puppy he just young and I am sure he will grow out of the stage you are seeing at this time, you just need some better photos or even wait a little while and submit some more as he grows.

Good Luck

Joe, If you could get some different pictures or better yet, a short video of your dog moving around, walking, playing, etc, it will help a lot. The problems with this type of communication is that it can be open to misinterpretation since you can't see the person who is communicating with you so you don't get the full meaning. Body language and facial expression as well as tone of voice can't be shown on a message board. Don't take comments personally, please.

 Joe,

You have to be careful on this forum on what you post..people are fast judging on picture that can't tell a lot anyway..

We can all agree that he is roach back..but to state that he is in pain!! Lots of vet here on this board LOL..

I've seen a lot of roach back and they didn't have any problem with it..I've seen a lot a GSD who looked perfectly fine and had some spine problem later in life..the fact is..WE CANNOT SAY THIS LITTLE GUY IS GOING TO HAVE PROBLEM AT ALL..

Now your question was is he roach back..the answer is YES! Thank God he is in a good loving home..keep watching him and if you have any doubt..take him to get x-rays (that will probably show absolutly nothing!) good luck..

OK, granted, the photos are not professional, but there are several shots clearly taken at different times, locations, and angles... all show a spine bent like an bow. I couldn't force my dog to look like that in a photo if I deliberately tried... and thank God for that! I do not think it's possible to say whether or not the dog is in pain, but this is NOT normal and NOT desireable. The fact that some showline fans would have the gaul to defend the breeding that produces such an animal is disturbing. Show dogs do not need to look like freaks to get that coveted "V". Fortunately I prefer the workingline, where breeders do not have such pressure to produce extreme appearances. I'll take extreme drive over extreme angles any day!

I don't think anyone is defending this!! This is clearly undesirable for a GSD.  I don't think any breeder is trying to produce that!!(i surely hope so!!)

A "coveted" V?  Who covets this?   Jesus... no wonder the OP has buggered off!  What utter nonsense!

Just out of curiosity I looked up the pup's Dad - he is a well known stud dog in Europe (though not as well known as his more famous brother ULK). Pedigree for Karat's ULKO : www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/123517.html

Joe if you are still out there, do you have a link to a photo of the Mom?  Again, I'm just interested in his background, I'm not making a critique of your pup......

 Missbeb,

A "V" show rating, if not "VA" is EXACTLY what ever show person is going for!  That is the highest show rating one can receive, outside of a national sieger show at which thevery much coveted "VA" rating is awarded.   So, yes, it is coveted.  Nobody covets a "G,"  which is just a  passing grade.

What do you call the highest show rating in the UK?

LOL... well, I'm going to have to take this one on the chin!  I thought she was refering to the peak in the pups back... being V shaped.  Sorry!  I should take my time when reading posts... at least the ones I refer to, once again, sorry.

AnjaBlue - Here is a link to Gunther' mom:  http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/557839.html

ULKO is now in residence at Drachefeld Kennels in Lexington, Kentucky.
,
To all of you that have posted here and been objective and honest in your opinions I thank you.

I knew I would be opening a can of worms by posting on this messageboard, especially images of a SL dog, but I figured what the hell, there are supposed to be 100's of years of experience on this board, and I wanted some opinions.

Opinions I got. From the realistic to the far fetched, thank you all for your comments, even the absurd ones.

I am going to trust my Vet and upon our next visit will discuss the roach issue in depth and get an x-ray of his spine taken to ensure beyond a reasonable doubt that there isn't a health issue.

and for the record, the above digital images were simply RANDOM, NOT-POSED digital images to try and capture some images of his back while standing, walking and holding his head up.

We haven't really tried to force Gunther into a stacked pose yet, nor are we in any real hurry to do so.

Thanks again for all input.

Vinegarjoe
