Karon - are you trying to be funny, or are you another new member who just wants to jump around threads adding useless comments? We aready have Ronnie for that (no offense Ronnie but one of you is more than anyone could ask for ) As for your citicism on the advice given, this topic has been discussed at length many times on this board. In fact, it is still being discussed in another thread right now under the title "Do you feed raw chicken?" If, the OP has read these threads, as she indicates she has, I don't think the advice given by anyone is inadequate.

Wdozier - chicken bones are not going to hurt your dog as long as they're raw. And, if you have been reading the many threads on this topic since Sept. I'm sure you've seen the dozens of photos people have added showing their dogs eating chicken and other raw meaty bones.  I feed chicken feet as treats, or as we now affectionately call them (thanks to Missbeeb)...footsicles.

You might try this very current thread on feeding raw chicken. Much of what you want to know has very recently been posted there.

YR - Do you really remove the spike thread? I've never done that.  I've been throwing down 1/2 or whole chickens since my current boy was 10 weeks. He eats his fill (which now is usually the whole chicken) and if there is any leftover, I throw it in the fridge an add it to his meal the following day. Have you heard of someone actually having a problem with this? Just curious.

We keep chickens for the eggs, and we even allow our old chickens who no longer lay eggs to live out their lives here in happy retirement.  When the chickens run,  my dog's prey drive kicks into overdrive as it is,  so NO, I absolutely do not allow my GSD (or the Akita or the Rottie/Pit)  to "hunt", nor do I give him whole game with  feathers/skin.   He does eat 100% RAW, but the animals have already been taken apart!

sueincc,

Glad to read your post. If you have poultry living on your property and allow your dog/cat to hunt them, that's cruelty. They may have a chance to escape if they're free. Now I have a dog and a cat, but before that, I used to rescue and care for injured birds, such as doves and pigeons. I actually kept them inside the house until they recovered.  At one point, I was about to shoot my neighbor's cat, because it used to come to my backyard and hunt the wild birds I was feeding. My own cat is not allowed to leave the house.

" ... and allow your dog/cat to hunt them"

That's the key word - ALLOW.  My dogs were NEVER allowed to hunt or chase the chickens, ducks or rabbits I raised.

And here is one eating his raw chicken next to one of the baby chickens eating their food:
