My toys are 3" white pvc pipes cut in 12' lengths and the Jolly ball for out in the field or the Emu pen.. I long years ago quit wasting money on commercial indestructable toys. YR

My personal experiences. The Boomer ball company designs toys for zoo animals. http://www.boomerball.com/ . Their new herding ball looks interesting but what a price tag. The original Boomer was advertised with a picture of a Gorilla and a claim of indestrutible. Note that now they (and most of the other companies who make "indestructible" toys) say that it is "vitrually" indestructible or as Boomer says "resistant, but not impervious, to chewing and scratching". Bought one early on and it had a very short life. It has a plug so one can add sand or water to make it heavy so you might want to do that if you try it but the plug was actually the first weak spot mine got to. The egge has no plug but my current destructo dog( AKA the Reminator because of her predilition to destroy things) had no interest in it.  Expensive lesson.  These types of toys tend to interest the dogs that like to play soccer with their toys ( usually vocalizing at a high scream while doing so, so suggest daytime use only preferably while your neighbors are at work). If you have the Von Stephanitz book look for the 1905 picture showing 3 GSDs playing with a hedgehog. Very same behavior.

Remy loves the Jolly balls but whoever said they don't get torn apart - WRONG. Once again very short lifespan. Large Cuz does pretty good with her but you do have to watch out for chewing the feet off. I save old plastic milk jugs and use them as free temporay toys. She can carry it in her mouth and beat the other dogs up with it. She crunches it and smashes it and WHEN not if she starts to shred it - out it goes.

Years ago I had a bitch, Tammy, who was a major "rock hound". Loved to do the soccer thing with LARGE boulders and pieces of concrete. I actually baited her in the show ring with a small rock because she was far more interested in that than liver. She was extremely toy destructive. On a side note her kids and grandkids were great herders. I suspect if I had had the opportunity to do the same with her the level of destruction might have gone down.  In the end there were only two toys she could be trusted with. One was a 3 inch Cressite solid rubber ball from England. ( If anyone can tell me where to get them today I would love it. I find the small ones but not the large ones). I just ordered this http://www.allk-9.com/kong-ball-large-p-533.html  in the hope it may be as good for the Reminator.

The other "toy" Tammy was allowed was a solid metal garbage can cover. (Keep in mind this was a dog that accidently punctured a steel belted radial tire). The garbage can cover was her frisbee since normal frisbees had a life expectancy of 5 seconds. Not indestructable. After about a year she would have bent folded and mutilated it into a small rectangle of metal at which time she would get a new cover. She spent her retirement with my Mom who would not go to the store and just ask for the cover so on one of my trips out to visit I brought along a garbage can cover. Tho this was pre Sept 11 it still amazed me that thru 4 plane changes and flights  and 3 "security" checks only ONE person (a stewardess on the last flight) thought to ask me what the heck that metal thing under my seat was for. ( I didn't dare ship it in my luggage figuring they'd blow up my suitcase). Ah the things we do for our dogs. :)))

A friend of mine had an import stud that had his own 16 lb bowling ball.  He was obsessed with it and would carry it around everywhere.
