I have seen a few documentaries on the eating of dogs and cats .They are alive strung up by the neck ,dipped in boiling water and skinned while still alive .That sounds yummy! You can even pick what dog or cat you want to eat.emm stir fry.Yes I do eat meat.In the year 2009 why can it not be done in a humane manner?

You should if you feel that strongly write to the ones who carry out these sadistic acts on Horses, that is the way to go voice your thoughts in writing, nothing will come of it on this forum that is certain
But then again as we all know even our own kind are treated nearly the same in many cases,
Other animals are treated badly, no one person living can change it, it is the way we humans are, and it will not change in my time on this earth, in fact i think it never will  until we finally destroy ourselves with our greed and stupidity
Then all animals may be free to live a life as they wish to

Steve,

I know it is a cultural thing, just like I wouldn't dream of eating rhesus monkey brains, but somewhere it is a delicacy! Or cat or dog or rat, actually there are more animals I won't eat than I do eat. And if one is going to slaughter a horse or cow or pig for that matter, it is always hoped the animal does not suffer needlessly. Have you heard of Temple Grandin?

It is interesting that the horse was reintroduce to the America's by Europeans, and without the horse, perhaps the winning of the West would have played out differently. There is adventure and romance in our history with our cowboy heritage, and maybe that is what we won't move past when we think of the horse.

I remember back in the '70's there was a big uproar when someone opened a butcher shop and offered up horsemeat for sale, here. The business never took off and it closed. I also remember horses escaping from an accident on the Michigan freeways years ago and they were on their way to slaughter to be sold to the Belgians.

So do you have a good horse recipe?

To each his own, and bon appetite!

Im not trying to change the world.ya all can eat what you all want.Steve I have no problem if you eat horse meat .I will pass on eating horse, also a pass on dogs cats rats woodchuck squirrel bear possum raccoon veal snails caviar lamb goats monkeys pigeon brains of any kind.I will be on the ass of those  who truck those horses to a cruel and inhumane death.I did not realize the amount of suffering they indore on the way to slaughter and the manner of cruelty involved in the killing or slaughter.I had a blind eye I guess, but now I see.Sometimes I feel bad for plants and trees, silly I know .Oh well

Beetree and Wuzzup
It seems you do not read other posts correctly, if you read my reply to 4 pack you will see that someone had filled my freezer with horse meat when i moved over to Belgium and as it meant because all shops were shut if i did not eat it then i would have gone without food for over three days and i am not that stupid
And please do not think because i live in Belgium that i am in the custom of eating Horse meat
I do not because it is a bit earthy for me, but if i did like it i certainly would eat it and have no regrets in doing so
There is nothing wrong in people eating the meat  of  horses, some people less fortunate than you two would give anything to have a piece of meat on there plate of any sort
So get off your high horses and stop being patronising to others because they do not go along with your way of thinking,
I answered this post in the correct way stating i thought they should be treated in a humane manner in being Culled
And the word CULLED is the correct one not KILLED that is the wrong phase

Steve you mistake me.Im not saying it is wrong to eat horse meat,or any other meat with the exception of dogs and cats, its the manner in which they are hauled and the manner in which they are slaughtered that is the problem. That is my country's problem to correct. As for the torture involved in the killing and eating of dogs and cats, that goes on in other cultures not ours.

Steve,

Sorry to upset you! You are somewhat right, as I have not read all the  posts, 4packs included, but you are wrong in that I never intended to preach at all.

Just talking about the differences. And I am curious on what makes a good horse recipe!

What I understand here, is these horses aren't culled in the sense you speak of maybe, just are being sold at auctions. I had a friend who was afraid to sell their horse when it was older and no one rode her anymore because of the fear of it being sold for slaughter. But I don't have time to go and read everything right now, so forgive me if you've covered this.

Again apologies if you thought I was patronizing.

Temple Grandin is a gifted autistic savant who specializes in cattle corrals that lessen their suffering at the slaughter house.

Certainly not upset by a couple of women, sorry to say, I do not know of any recipes for horse as if you have read my posts i only had it a couple of times
Yes, Dog and Cats are eaten in several parts of the world and will continue to be eaten, Some people see no wrong in it
We people who think we have more morals and are more educated, probably do not have the hardship in living as some of those people who eat those animals to stay alive,
But the do gooders on this thread who start to throw there arms up in the air with disgust because some people of a different country eat an animal they like, and they consider it just for the personal  fun use of humans and as a domesticated animal, such as the horse
On some time back on another thread, i said i eaten hedgehog and Crow,  Snake, rodents plus a other things including beetles, Perhaps that too disgusts some
When you are a long way from anywhere and are hungry, you would even cull and eat a horse given the opportunity, but there was not one around at the time
Not much point on carrying on with this thread it will end up the same as some others , with us going nowhere to agreeing

STEVE, I eat meat--Love it! I eat beef, pork, chicken, salmon, shrimp, crab, etc. But, I buy it all nicely cut, wrapped, USDA inspected and arranged in the store. IF I had to see the slaughter and butering (or, heaven forfend, do it myself), I probably would have to become a vegetarian!! But, I would never eat horse or dog packaged or otherwise, barring a Leningrad-type siege of some kind, BECAUSE they are horses and dogs. It is simply a cultural issue. I eat veal, too, or would, if PETA et al had not virtually caused it to be removed from the market. I can't remember the last time I bought veal and made veal scallopini. :-) People who are really concerned about humane slaughter should patronize kosher or halal markets and butcher shops. The meat is noticeably better, minus all that adrenaline and fear-induced hormones in the meat.

I really do not know where you Guys are coming from. Read my posts
from the onset i have said looked after and Culled humanly, But this done then there is no reason whatso ever for the horse not to be eaten the same as cattle or any other animal
Some of you people do not have to forgo the hardships of some people they have no choice, and i am not talking about cruelty in culling or conditions
And as for having morals on what you eat, then get out in the middle of no where in a hot and steamy place and catch your own food or go hungry, and you cannot even light a fire i can tell you  that you will soon change your mind and thoughts on how it died
But you never will, so it is all pointless talking about it
Steve
