Open your eyes and look at what is behind most of these movements that are designed to capture peoples emotions.  The Humane Society of today is not what it appears to be.   Peta has it's hand in it all and have perfected the art of manipulating people to make decisions based totally on "feelings" with no common sense, and little insight as to how it will play out in the end.  I for one am very conserned as to how rampant this line of reasoning is today.  We had a thread on hear years ago regarding "culling", same hysteria took over and common sense was thrown out the window.  Listen to some of those with good sense and think about it and chew on it awhile.  Read the posts by those that have been around awhile and demonstrate good sense in other regards, such as Animules, and others.  When we as people rely totally on emotions to make major decisions, we will get what we asked for in the end.  Kitkat, this is not meant to be mean, it is just something to sit back and think about.

Answer this question truthfully and this applies to all you guys posting on this thread who are against the human consumption of eating horse meat
What i want to know is, do you eat meat of any kind, or flesh of any bird or fish
A simple YES or NO will suffice

Your right Steve, meat is meat, it's all dead. Even without human consumption, the dogs still gobble it up quickly and the slaughter houses are full. My grandfather ate horse in Germany during the second WW. He said it tasted yummy.

In January  2004 I arrived in Belgium in freezing cold weather, It was 4oclock in the morning, My brother and i with the mad Dog Charlie was met with a leaking kitchen roof and flooded floors, not a good start to the new life
However prior to this a Belgian who had helped us with getting the house, had asked me if i wanted any meat put in the Freezer brefore we got there, this freezer being a part of the kitchen
I said Yes, and he said Horse meat or Cow
I said Cow meat
So as it was a Sunday morning we arrived we naturally wanted some thing to eat,
So i took out a couple of steaks from the freezer to thaw out
However  the meat looked a bit dark so i said to my brother we have about 10 kg of Horse meat in the freezer not cow meat
But having not eaten anything since the prior friday evening  i grilled the horse steaks
Never had it before but i was suprised how tender it was, a bit stronger taste than beef  but pleasant
However between us two brothers and the Dog we ate the 10kg of horse meat in due course
It was no cheaper at that time than cow meat
I have had it once since in those four years and it is more tender than beef
The Belgians eat it regular and nothing wrong in that
The only concern that i have is that the animal be culled humanly other wise Horse is no different from Cow or Pig or anything else
It is no use any one on here getting on there high horse about this, 'excuse the pun'
Because there is simply nothing un ethical about eating horse meat, Only that they be treated right and culled correctly as should all animals for human consumption

All animals should have a decent quality of life.  Whether they are reared for meat or not, they should have a decent life in reasonable surroundings... and be killed humanely.  That should not be too much to expect in this day and age.

I always try to buy "organic", it's more expensive but the more people that buy it, the more affordable it will becaome.

I've eaten horsemeat once; many years ago... it was for the dogs, but I tried it and remember it as being pretty tasty!  It wasn't something they got often, as it tended to give them diarrhoea!  Those were the days when you could go to your nearest abattoir (now, they're long gone) to buy a variety of "things" for the dogs.  My Mum used to send me to get two sheeps heads... for a tanner (sixpence) LOL.  There's an amazing amount of meat on a sheep's head and the dogs loved it!

Life was simpler then!

I don't eat horse either... just tasted it the once!  Personally, I would tend to be more concerned with their living conditions than about who eats them when they're dead.  What man does to living creatures is often pretty bloody grim.

Good you eat meat, and you do not eat horse meat,
That is okay but other people like horse meat more so over in Belgium Holland etc
That does not make them any different from yourself or other people who are against eating horse meat but eat other animals
The one thing we are all agreed on is that they and all other animals which are eaten by humans have a good quality of life and culled humanly at the end
Nothing knows anything about it once it is dead
As i said I have in my life for many years rode out Steeplechasers for race horse trainers, i have competed in Dressage events, and a bit of Show Jumping etc
In fact in my time i had some of the Top Steeplechase Trainers in the country wanting me to take it up as a profession when i was younger, but my other sports made me decline the offers, but i often wondered if i did right
So i do know a little about horses, but i am not against them being used for food providing they are treated the right way and no matter what we say some are not, but then we cannot even control our own species regards cruelty towards its own kind,
There is so much cruelty in the world, and it will go on through the passages of time, no talk on a dog forum will change anything
And as a passing comment , What about some countries who eat Dogs, no mention of that, Now they are not normally culled for human consumption as a whole, would you not agree
Steve
