TRUGSD

The dogs love those....  Traumatizing for me to make, but well worth it.

I don't know if a dehydrator would work, but I would think it would, just take a lot longer maybe?  It's funny you bring it up because  I am interested in buying one, I want to make healthier snacks for myself.  I'm sending you a PM for advise & don't want to be rude & hijack the thread!

Does opening a bag of carrot's count as a treat?

My dog's would steal a car for a cheeze puff.    They have proved this many time's in the past.

I can't think of anything I actually make from scratch.

For the sake of a friend and my kids I will tell you all "THE REST OF THE LIVER STORY"

A friend actually made the liver treats first.  I happened to stop by her house while running errands and she gave me the recipe and a bag of those treats to try...  Well, my two year old grabbed the bag and chomped away... needless to say he didn't leave any for the dogs.  To top it off he cried cause I wouldn't give him more...  He is food driven.  Hope it makes him easier to train then the first two boys...  LOL

I dehydrate fresh liver and then cut it up into small pieces.  Great for tracking bait because the ants aren't immediately attracted to it.

Radar gets all of his nutritional requirements from his food and supplements -- and he has bad hips so I do not want to feed him anything that will add more calories to the equation.  His FAVORITE treat is  ice cubes -- the only drawback we have experienced with this is that when I am fixing iced tea, he hears the "clink" of the cubes in the glass and comes to attention!  He LOVES to play "ice hockey," batting the cubes around the floor!

My pup loves ice cubes... I just pray she never learns to operate the ice dispenser on the fridge.  She is way too sharp for her own good so I'm sure she will figure it out in time.     That sure could make for an eye opening experience walking through a dark kitchen at night barefoot *BRRRR*

Radar is so smart that I am sure he will figure this out -- a scary thought that I had not contemplated.  Glad he does not have an opposable thumb, he would take over the house!!

Carrots and ice cubes are my male & females favorite treat!  I used to buy the litle pencil carrots, but found the huge bag of whole carrots at Costco's are their favorite.  I give them a whole carrot and you would think they have a bone, prancing around the yard.  The ice cubes are my males absolute favorite, he is always right there by the fridge whenever I get some for myself.

Cheap treats!

The liver cookie recipe above is a to die for in doggie words. I also have a parmesan cheese cookie recipe if you are interested, I will look it up. But honestly the liver cookies aren't that bad to make and they love them. I have added various stuff to it, like grated carrots, smoke flavoring (lol) , cornmeal (no reactions), oatmeal etc. Ya just can't screw it up...
