Excellent post, wish there were more like you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Penny on 22 September 2008 - 22:09

On the thread headed ASTANA STATEMENT - the posts turned to this very subject... why did Alfons die, what was the cause.  Like others I have an Alfons young daughter, so had an interest in why such a young fit and apparently healthy dog suddenly died.   Ansgar posted that he had an autopsy done, and that a copy had been sent to Julie and Tom.  They have no report, and are as wise as us all as to what happened to their very beautiful dog.  They are devestated.  I sent a personal message to Ansgar on 8th September 2008 to ask him privately what the Autopsy report revealed, for my own information owning progeny.   To date, I have had NO REPLY. I have given Ansgar the benefit of doubt that he was busy preparing for the Seiger, it is now over, some 9 days, and I have not had the courtesy of a reply.    I am disgusted  and of course, I am now suspicious, with good cause brought on my Ansgars apparent lack of communication on what should be a very important matter to the many people that have progeny.  I would have thought a man in Ansgars position would realise the need for open truthfulness regarding this matter - after all - further breeding from this sire is likely to go on is it not?

Well  -  3rd October now and still Ansgar has not replied to my private message re the death of Alfons.  So - I conclude that I am obviously not going to get an answer....  I am really disgusted that with a daughter of Alfons, (and I know I am not alone) I have no idea what caused her father to drop dead at such a young age, and am not likely to know.

I now am left to form my own conclusions - but its not about the wonderful dog, its about Ansgar as an SV judge, to whom we should respect, and expect fair play,.   I ask, now, because I am cross - who made whom well known.

Did Ansgar make Alfons the dog he was - or did Alfons make Ansgar ???    Perhaps if it was the latter, Ansgar really doesnt care about the importance of the possibility of inheritance or gene pools or any of the like.   Perhaps he just likes gradings - in the UK we call those people Pot hunters.   They go to shows, collect their prizes usually with dogs they have bought in, and care not a fig for the betterment of the breed by giving information, just in case it stops them getting another trophy at a later date.  The only good thing about it is that those folk dont last in the breed very long..... so farewell Ansgar..

Dont know the answer to that one

Folks, animals, humans and all creatures die. Just because a dog died of x, y or z does not mean that its's siblings or progeny will. I have no idea why the owner of this wonderful dog does not talk about the cause, but so what? He has every right to remain silent, if that is his choice.

Hodie, you are right in what you say,but if i remember correctly Ansgar came on here and said if people with progeny from Alfons wanted to know he would discuss the matter with them and only them. That is his perogative, but i know of people who have contacted him and have had no reply, that is unfair to those owners who wish to know the futures of thier dogs. liz

And that is why the breed is becoming more unhealthy by the minute!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Penny on 14 October 2008 - 21:10

I agree with Brady Bee, and Liz has made the point exactly - but Hodie, possibly you werent aware that the breeders and CO -OWNERS to this day, are not aware of the cause of death !!!   Ansgar was not "the owner" outright.... Alfons was in partnership and living with Ansgar in Germany..

There is nothing to be gained by silence if there is a problem.  There is everything to be gained if that problem is shared to enlighten people concerned, mostly - the respect for the person who really knows, and has shared the information.... however, thats not to be.       I have the following thoughts now regarding progeny from Alfons....  he has older half brothers and sisters.....his mother and his father are still alive.....,and his grandfather has only just passed away - and none of the aforementioned have any seering health issues - so without Ansgars replies, perhaps we should all conclude that something "strange" happened to Alfons, and either way, he is deceased, and we should get on with enjoying his progeny and remember him for the great dog that he was.....   Mo Lakin - Mascani.
