Dp this year two day national was the worst i have ever been to.Taking nothing away from any of the winners and most of them said the same anyway, the judging was the worst i have ever seen. They totally lacked any system, had no running order, forgot to check teeth, measured some dogs and not others, measured one dog who was 2nd to last at the end of the class? One female was just about to do her gait and was called back to check teeth just as she got going. Two males were measured by the judge holding the collars and measuring against his leg???

Most (not all) ring stewards were extremly rude and quite scary about double handling, one gentleman being  shouted at that he was a ch show judge and should know better and another being called an idiot??.We pay our money to come to shows and manners cost nothing.

The rings were WAAAYYY to big, half size of a football pitch each, this lead to everyone be spread out.No atmosphere, terrible and expensive burger van.

Everyone was saying the same thing and this been the most looked forward to show of the year,it was a total let down.

Having not attended the show, having read & heard the feed back  -thank-goodness I didn't make the journe.,I cannot help but wonder how is it that show committees find it SO VERY hard to organise shows to run well & provide basic facilities required for any gathering of people? I realise sometimes finding good venue's can be problamatic, but every venue inspected prior to booking needs to have the basic facilities..ie good CLEAN toilets & GOOD catering... & thats just the basics, its not difficult or that expensive to hire toilets .Also what does it take to check out local B & B's, hotels etc & list them in the schedule, I realise committes have no control over the actual judging, but surely if enough stewards are in place the easy basic checks on dogs ie teeth, testicles, should be done smoothly & easily perhaps in a collecting ring as dogs enter the main ring for judging.Perhaps there is an opening for someone to run 'how to organise & run a show' weekends???!!!!

And for those of you wondering , yes I have been on lots of commitees & been very involved with the running of shows, some multiple day horse shows that believe me require alot more organisation then dogs shows do (stabling, splitting mares from stallions etc.).Once again no wonder entries are at an all time low.

i have to agree with x factor in everything she said about the judging i thought it was a joke the bitch judge made mistake after mistake he probably run the minor puppy bitches around the ring more than any other class he called out dogs in the wrong order then sat in his tent for about 15 minutes leaving all handlers and dogs standing in the pouring rain and took an absolute age to do the judging some of which just did not make sense   he said of one bitch that this was the queen of the show then in the chalange did not even give her a second look, the steward in the dog ring was abusive to the exhibitors  and yes there was no atmosphere at all at the show the burger van was expensive but when they have a monopoly then they can charge what they want   and if you were to ask the exhibitors at this show i think you will find that most of them think the same whether they won or not.

Taking nothing away from the winners. I have got to agree with most of the comments above.  No time on the Saturday for the progeny groups, people were totally fed up by the end of the show so there was no Kennel groups. This is our premier show and these should be one the MAJOR  highlights.

This said the committee can take no blame for the weather or the standard of the judging, which was some of the worst I have seen.

We had a great time, and enjoy showing in Scotland especially on the night, dogs did well so no gripes there, I must say that I fully agree with the sentiments of XFactor and jaymesie on the ring size, atmosphere and poor judging, and hearing many people complaining about the stewarding were treating exhibitors during the show.

Nasko looked very well and deserved the CC, though not one of the best adult classes I have seen for a Two Day, but still well deserved, and one of my favorites Kora took her title, well done to those and all the other exhibitors with their dogs.

I am looking forward to Wales next year, think we may have a good show there. Anyone remember a few years back at the 2 Day in Wales in July where we were all flooded out, our tent was swimming away during the night, gladly the kids never woke up, oh what fun memories.

The 2 day show should be held at Weston Park every year, hosted by ALL FOUR CLUBS JOINTLY. and if the other Countries want a SPECIAL CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW each year, for example 2007 Irelands was a superb show, then they should have a 2 day event of their own EVERY YEAR. What a delight to look forward to EVERY YEAR, one at WESTON PARK and one in NORTHERN IRELAND.

by beepy on 21 July 2008 - 21:07

Why should it be held at Weston Park??

If it was to be held in one location it would be ideal was somewhere that had an undercover area that could be used if the weather conditions turn nasty.  Across the country there are numerous places such as Agricultural Colleges that have large fields that could be hired and many also have indoor riding schools that could be accessed should it turn nasty.  Another alternative would be somewhere like Ardingly or one of the other big show grounds that also has permanent buildings that could be utilised.  Another site that I have seen used for schutzhund is the NRA at Bisley.
