CHRIS - Couldn't have said it better myself -- the x-rays themselves are critical - and then you need trained eyes evaluating them -- I would do prelim at 12 months or so -if I was deciding to keep a young bitch/dog for breeding -- but if it got a OFA FAIR at that point - I'd be tempted to wait until 3 instead of 2 because if there was less deterioration- I might get a better rating at a later age !! It's good they take that into consideration - I guess -- And I've always suspected that the Germans are harder on evaluatoins because way back when -- 15-20 years ago - I saw many dogs imported with a Fast Normal - and they pretty much always OFA'd Good - Good thing about OFA evals is that it's 3 board certified radiologists, right ?? and the majority prevails - So if you don't like the results - I guess you can wait 6 months -- or have better pics taken and send them in again -- and at that point - 3 different board members will review it -- and they will have their glasses on.

Cheers Sibersee, Good information, I'd never even thought of copying x-rays! From own experience I know that some vets/radiologists are very practised as to what's required, whilst others are practically hopeless by comparison! Correct positioning of animal is of vital importance here: I know the forms and other supports you mentioned. Apparently, and this is how complicated it can become, if scanner is 'tilted/slanted' just the right way, a bad hip can be contrived to seem quite good on x-ray! Please don't ask me about finer technicalities! Took bitch to one vet, and was informed she'd never pass the 'scoring', it was all genetic and she shouldn't be used for breeding! This didn't seem to accord with parents' standing at all! So, took her to another for new x-rays. Unprompted, he instantly concluded genetics 'has never to do with it', and that here it was obviously the result of injury she'd sustained to hip as a pup, and as reflected by 'healed bump' on ischium! You know, I've put question about the arithmetical 'scores' that underly the SV definitions twice now, and did Google search, but, getting plain answer! Does anyone actually know!
