Daryl, I understand your frustration with the standard. Like many, many other breeds, the original job the GSD was intended to do is disappearing. The Captain at least had the foresight to see that it was going to get more and more difficult for a GSD to prove itself tending a large herd of sheep, so he was instrumental in developing Schutzhund as an alternative performance venue.  Many other breeds are not so lucky. The standard as we know it today still addresses the physical traits needed for a tending dog, not a protection dog.  It's no wonder this breed has had so many splits over the years. I guess all anyone can do is their best as you are doing. Over-size and  under-size just happens.

Daryl I wasn't implying your dogs are oversized as per the standard. How would I know, I haven't measured them? I meant big boned and well filled out dogs. Some dogs tend to be thinner in the waist, less muscled and lighter boned, like a Mal or Dutch. In my experience, my lighter boned dogs have been the faster dogs. That's not always the case, (which is good). I love the look of the thicker boned dogs, big heads, loads of muscle but not at the expense of speed and agility. That's why I would jump at the chance to grab a  pup or breed to a thick dog that moves like Zender, hoping that size and speed would be passed on. I have seen videos of your bitch, she is fast and hits like a damn train. Seeing a bitch perform like a male is nice! Her good size is a bonus for big dog lovers like myself. Drives come first, size is way down the list in terms of reasons to breed a dog.

Oh, I know you weren't directing that at me specifically, and also agree with you about usual "status quo".  I'd imagine a lighter dog moving fast could match the impact of a heavier dog moving slow.  And they say that the slowest dog can still catch a human but even so, fast and agilie (more like a mal) is alot more impressive to me.

KCzaja, I thought you might appreciate this oversized corgi...

Blitzen my current pups are out of KKL'd parents. I'd like to have my dogs breed surveyed one day, but if that doesn't work out, I wont cry over it.
